Around here, the Amish use them for compressed air tanks, to run their air powered well pumps, and other things. A 1,000 gal. tank of air will last them about a week. And those pumps will scare the bejesus out of you, if you've never heard one, and not expecting it to kick on. But not nearly as bad as the old air start Macks & Freightliners..!!
Interesting. Makes sense if the tank is new or nearly so. I don't think I'd want to be standing near a 1000 gal propane tank that was condemned for lack of structural integrity but then "recycled" to hold compressed air at 170 psi.
