lift and moving a cabin.

Anyone have experience about moving a cabin. I noticed a small a frame type cabin but its on cement posts. If I though about buying it, I would want it on a foundation. Anyone with experience of how I can lift it to dig under it, or move it. The cabin isnt that important really, but its on a bit of land. Thanks

If it's on cement posts you can dig out your foundation and pour it up to the bottom of the cabin without moving it. Just pour the posts right in with the new. Before you actually pour, hang some brackets from the perimeter plates of the cabin. You could also pour the foundation low and build it up with blocks.

I did this with one that was sitting on 4 X 8 "skids". It had underground power running to it and I was not able to move it without a lot of work. So I just poured it in place and it worked out fine. I did mine with sono tubes and poured them full of concrete. Insulated, and then skirted the perimeter with Hardy tile backer board strips that were set down into grooves in the ground to stop air and animals from digging in.

What are the dimensions of the bldg? Is it well built? Do you want to only lift to improve the foundation or do you want to move it and how far? To raise it you need the "right" (long enough and heavy enough to handle the span and distance between jacking points) dimension beams. It is always fun laying under a building while you jack it up. Think about that for a minute and you will get stronger longer beams.

Once it is up in the air you have to have a stong and stiff enough trailer or base to move it. Think Egyptian!:laughing:...and be careful!

I'm curious why do you need a different foundation?
what size of building?
location (frost line)?
utilities?
Are you going to do the work your self?

Pier foundations if done properly are a normal way of construction.

If you are going to do it the simplest way is build "basement" near and have a house mover move it over.

That said many have excavated under their house (including me)and put walls in and I and done yet (3 years as time permits on weekends at my cabin).

Or move place put foundation in were it was move it back.
but it usually will be cheaper to extend utilities to the new location one move verses 2
