300U,

I just looked up where Howell is. I used to travel to Brighton yrs ago for a project. A Great aunt and uncle lived in Pontiac and are buried there.

Thanks for sharing those incredible pics, true Ohio scenes, through and through. That kind of deep family history in such a beautiful place is a very special thing. I'll always be an Ohioan no matter where we end up living.

Wow, great thread, wish I had a tenth of the history about my family... should have talked to my grandparents some about it but I didn't care about it back then :(

I wish I had spent more time with my grandparents, but they all retired to Florida and Arizona. That breaks up the continuity somewhat.

My great aunt and uncle were snowbirds after they retired. lived in Daytona for the winter, Pontiac during the summer. My Senior year of High School we took a class trip to Florida and visited daytona beach. My Aunt and uncle gave me a tour of the Daytona speedway, and ponce inlet lighthouse. Before I was old enough to go to school, they would visit, and we would drive all over the county sightseeing. These pictures from the 60's.

Here I am with my great Aunt. This bridge is no longer there.

This bridge is still there and used. It was recently fixed up.

Last summer I was able to take my dad on a trip around the county, this is the same bridge above. Dad spent almost 40 yrs working for the county highway dept. He knew every road and practically every house in the county, and knew a lot of people.

The post about my grandfathers(1871-1943) farm was on my Dad's side. My Great Grandmother died less than a month before I was born. My maternal grandfather died when I was 3, so didn't know him. Here is a picture of my paternal Great Grandparents house that was across the valley from my grandparents farm. The one room school was built on property next to my great grandparents.

Teg,

I like the Hillsville VA area, real pretty there. Always thought that might be a place to retire to.
