The idea behind the V10 is not mpg but mph.Name any other suv cranking out 310hp/553tq run 0 to 60 in 6.4sec.and average over 20mpg.Plus almost 12 inches of ground clearance.

( from most of the people i have talked to, they are not getting over 20 in their tdi's. )Read on the internet or actually talked too.The reason also may be attributed to a heavy foot.Once you've driven one you would understand

Ok, I think we need to clarify the use of the term "TDI" in this thread.

The one I think of is the 1.9 L engine in the VW sedans that gets close to 50 mpg. I think some folks are using the same term to refer to the high performance diesel in the Tourag, which is a totally different thing, right?

Hmm, I just checked the vw site, the only engine option they show for the Tourag is a V-8, I assume this is what other posters meant about the diesel Tourag being very scarce?

The V10 for 05 is on hold now .The TDi is still avery effecient engine. If you want a TREg that is efficient then look at one with the 2.5 TDI diesel

Frankly, after my experiences with VW's, I wouldn't touch a VW with a ten foot pole. http/www.vwsucks.com

My family has had a bunch of VW's with no trouble. You can find a lemons in any brand

well, i hate to tell you that i sold vw's for a while so i have been around a few tdi tourags. great truck, wich i could afford one but you put a 5 liter v-10 in something shaped like a brick and its not going to get the greatest mpg.

It all depends at what speeds you run.I know a guy who maintained 50mph on a trip and got 28mpg.It has alot to do with weight.

Your misfortune is probably more related to the dealership than the car. Your servicing dealer isn't known for having great service technicians.......

Junkman

My problems involved multiple problems with the cars themselves, problems with the dealers, and problems with VWoA.
I thought that I had incredibly bad luck to get two lemons in a row, until i started reading about all the problems that VW was having. VW is at the bottom of everyones list for quality.
My TDI did get outstanding mileage, which helped when I was constantly driving back and forth to the dealership to have it fixed.

I have also read about VWs problems with quality and then i also read that of all the car manufacturers that they also have the highest resale value. That doesn't seem possible does it?
