Let's talk mattresses!

I have BPPV and it's easier to trigger without a pillow, but I still have to turn a bit farther than normal sleeping position. I suppose others' BPPV positions may not be as kind as mine (let me tell you, what a surprise the first time that happened! World was spinning all day!).
At last I read about a condition I don't have. (there aren't many of them)

Epley helps, but I often feel sick for a day or so after I have the spins.
Sometimes even after doing the epley a couple times (yes I hold the positions for 45+ seconds etc to give the crystals time to settle) I'll still have a slight wobble going...
Yep. I realize that I have a very minor case of it. It's never gone on long enough to make me sick.

I was very surprised the first time it happened - I had no idea what was going on; I got out of the bed and apparently as I did so something happened and the world started spinning really fast and I fell flat on my @$$ and immediately felt like I was going to throw up. Last time I felt this way was when a friend and I celebrated something (?his divorce? i don't remember any more) and drank an entire bottle of 25-year-old port (I consider drinking it in such volume a waste, but tbh it would've been wasted by not being drunk that night anyways) and smoked cigars and let me tell you that's a dangerous combination for a lightweight.

That first time with the vertigo I spent most of the day on my bed with kneeling with my head straight down on the bed because the spinning was the least in that position. By evening it had somehow passed, and I was concerned but didn't have much of a clue what had happened, and I didn't have another vertigo episode for four months, when I had a somewhat milder one though it kept going a lot longer and I saw my doctor and they did the epley and explained it all.

Since then, I occasionally do something (typically looking quickly over my right shoulder up into the air, idk) and I get a bit of a spin, but usually it's a brief spin and goes away. It's worse if I use a back roller to stretch out my back (lying down on the floor as my back/head/neck is already 90% in the right position to trigger things, and if I look the wrong way while I'm stretching, I get a bad spin and have to do the epley.

I've had to reassure family a few times that it won't happen while I'm riding my motorcycle (mirrors ftw)!

About a year and a half ago we went to Ikea and ended up with either their most expensive or one step down... The king size the wife insisted on BARELY fit upstairs (1913 house...) but honestly it's been pretty good, I sleep pretty good on my back or side and thinking back haven't had any bad back issues in a while... I think it was $1200 for the bed frame and mattress so not too bad...
