i have a pattern i mow the yard in which is mostly a function of least amount of travel requred to get it cut.
but its fun to put friends on the tractor and say "go cut grass" and watch what pattern they choose. often some pattern that I would have never occurred to me to cut the grass in (usually not built for least amount of travel)
