Man got this awesome vintage Craftsman tool chest for $20 at the weekend flea mkt yesterday. I supposed I could have dickered the price some but I didn't even bother too. I always remembered seeing it in the old Craftsman tool catalogs. Inside it will hold a 24" level. All steel box with D ring side handles, triple latched, keyed lock (included one key) and is it ever HEAVY! :D

Wow weighs 19.5 lbs empty without any tools at all. :confused2:

The inside is totally pristine including the black compartmental steel tray so looks like it has never been used at all. A few scratches on the outside though. Anybody ever match up Craftsman red paint before?

Kind of puts that new poly Milwaukee work box to shame really

I had that same long box in High school. I think my brother has it. Did you get the key for it?

Yea one key came with it. Was just looking around there are a lot of Craftsman boxes on Ebay, some good and a few not so good.

I found a spare key at a locksmith shop. They had a whole rack of them.

Ok look what I got today for a $10 spot at my weekly market.

It is a little machinist's type bench vice but for the life of me cant find any name or numbers cast into it but it does look fairly vintage and not something chineese. It's about 9" long 5.5 high with a 2 in jaw width and 4" throat.

The beam is a full two inches deep and inch wide and the base casting is fixed (non adjustable) plus it has an interesting 45 degree angle cast in as part of the front 90 degree table lock. There is a notch in the front jaw that fits a bolt perfect when the head is clamped in the jaws, looks like it was original cut...any other comments on that?

I set out it next to my Athol So check out the photos.

I also cross posted this info with the "good bench vice recommendations" thread in my search for some possible identification. The squared recess in the main body is the most distinct feature along with that jaw notch Seen some Starrett and Prentiss photos that are somewhat similar looking but they all have distinct logo markings :(

I picked this old girl up the other day, it's all original and complete! Haven't tried to run it yet. It's a Reed Prentiss made in Worcester, MA and in 1947 I believe. It was too cool not to buy!! Look at the Sprite can for size comparison.ImageUploadedByTractorByNet1475301916.876025.jpgImageUploadedByTractorByNet1475301927.260822.jpgImageUploadedByTractorByNet1475301968.899692.jpgImageUploadedByTractorByNet1475301981.551599.jpg

You know that had to set someone back a lot of money when it was new...

I miss the Craftsman two man saws...

They don't build them like they use to!

Yeah. I really like the lines of older equipment. Especially 30s-60s.
