Dang! Is it Friday again, already? I'm down only 3 lb more to 234. I'm cutting my breakfast back to 100 calories and only a celery snack or a large dill pickle for lunch. My body is struggling to hold its weight, but if I keep this up, I'll see a sudden drop soon. That's just the way my metabolism works. . . or doesn't work.

I'm down only 3 lb

Good going Jim. I think that losing 3 pounds a week is amazing and maybe too much for some people's systems to handle. This would be over 150 pounds a year. I know that I have gained 1 pound a year for 43 years except for the year I quit smoking and gained 5 pounds. If it takes that long to gain weight by overeating, it seems like it would take quite a long time to lose that much by under-eating but it seems like you are being successful.

Once you get to the weight that you want to maintain then you can increase your calories again but your eating habits must change forever and this takes a lot of mental work. I think that I have brainwashed myself into thinking that I love certain healthy foods and dislike some of the fatty high calorie ones. This frame of mind has certainly helped me keep from gaining more weight over the last few years. Learning how to eat slower seems to help also because there seems to be a time lag between the time your stomach is full and the time it takes your brain to tell you that it is full. This is why many of us don't feel overstuffed until about 15 minutes after we quit eating.

Just keep repeating, love that cabbage----broccoli is gooood-------

I was down another couple of pounds Wednesday.......then came our anniversary.

Actually, our 38th anniversary is today, but since my wife is working tomorrow we decided to celebrate yesterday by going out to a nice restaurant. I haven't weighed today, but I think I do have valuable advice to guys trying to lose weight who must also do the occasional dinner out for political reasons....like anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Pick a really expensive place! The more pretentious the better! The place we went is very proud of itself and its chef. Presentation trumps volume, so you get really pretty plates which are mainly empty except for a pretty little portion of whatever you ordered surrounded by swirls of sauce that are too spread out to get on your fork, and which can only be consumed if you pick up the plate and lick it. If the place is fancy enough, you probably will feel inhibited about picking up said plate.

This was the first time in months that we ate out and got dessert. I tend to pick restaurants that supply enough food to make the dessert menu unattractive. This place was not one of those. We had a $12 appetizer of "lobster and crab cakes". I was figuring on maybe two of each kind. It was two, total, of mixed lobster and crab, and they were about the diameter of a silver dollar. There was maybe 10cc of what I think might have been a really tasty sauce, but since it mostly disappeared with the wife's first bite, I'm not sure. We only ordered a single roasted beet salad because my wife was sure we would not be able to have an appetizer, salad and our entre and be able to walk out. It was a pretty good salad....I could have eaten the whole thing, no problem. My entre was Chicken roulade, which turned out to be a rather small chicken breast, with a stalk of asparagus, a sliver of red pepper, and some soft white cheese rolled up in it. It was then sliced into "pinwheels" and presented with about a half cup of a nice vegetable rice in a very pretty presentation. My wife's dish was some fish and scallops cooked in a parchment packet with some vegetables. Also very pretty....and small. So we both had room for dessert and both ordered crepes with different fruits. Mine was a nice caramel apple thing. Very pretty, with most of the caramel sauce artistically drizzled over the plate.

All in all, I figure I probably stayed within my diet, and it only cost me about what we normally spend on groceries for a week.

How's that for a diet plan!!!???

Well I was down another 3 pounds for the past week and now at 295. That is about 30 pounds for the year. Close to 50 since last summer.

Not a bad week considering we were on a cruise ship for 5 days. I avoided the buffet and had only fruits for breakfast. The big dinners I had either the grilled or broiled fish, shrimp cocktail (its a small order). I did have the lobster one night. My goal for the cruise was to not gain any of the weight back.:D

Wow! That's great Doug, especially for a week you were on a cruise. I don't think I could have done that.

I went to a regular, 6 month, appointment with my heart doctor yesterday. By his scales, I was down 31 lb from the last time I saw him. He was very happy with my progress and asked me what I was eating. When I told him, he was astonished. This week I'm eating no breakfast, a celery snack for lunch only if needed, and 300 to 400 calories for dinner. Some would say I'm starving myself, but I know this is just what I have to do. So, I've reset my daily goal to 600 calories or less down from 800. Some days I will probably be closer to 500 calories. A bowl of peas, soup, or steamed veggies sure taste good about 6 pm.:) Is a big dill pickle considered an entree?:D

Great progress!! It helps me get motivated by hearing the success stories. We're still looking for the bathroom scale. It was put "In the Storage Room Somewhere."
