Used Leinbach PHD for sale 1 comes with 6" auger 425.00 , 1 is HD 24" tree planter 625.00 looking at pictures both kind of dirty and used ,going to go look at them . Can anyone offer thoughts, experience ,any type info I should know before I go look at them? Yes I looked using search on the forum, but not a lot about the brand ,Leinbach. PHD usually don't last long on CL around here ( Greenville SC ). Any help much appreciated, what should I look for ,mechanical, oil leaks, noise ,whatever,? They are a 15 min ride on road, going to drive ""Big Orange", Kubota L 3901 to see them . Hook up and run. Never used one at all so any thoughts, help info appreciated. Thanks in advance and good luck on all your projects.

I had one. Other than blowing out my back hitching it (as would have any 3pt PTO PHD) it was fine. I ended up rebuilding the frame to fit on a quick hitch (only works with a hydraulic toplink) because of my back issues. It ran off with my old L3200. As long as there is lube in the gearbox & it spins & the PTO shaft isnt messed up there isnt much to a PHD. Make sure the teeth on the auger are replaceable as they wear out quick in some soils no matter the brand (auger brand often doesnt match the PHD).

Also check the condition of the pto shaft guards/shields it "could" give you a read on how much of a beaten its taken .......

Thanks to all who replied, the smaller unit has had a rough life ,leaks and makes noise when turning, PTO shaft loose. Larger unit is huge frame large and heavy, 24" auger is way to big for my tractor. Would be hard to handle either one by myself. Still for sale. I have 19 holes to dig prolly rent something from Home Depot. Good luck to all on your projects.

The augers are interchangeable as long as the shaft is the same shape and diameter (round, hex) Bigger and heavier is not necessarily a bad thing in a 3 pt. PHD.

Search results for: 'post hole digger'

2" round is the standard for PTO PHDs. The hydraulic SSQA use stronger 2" hex (what mine uses) or a 2 5/16" (I think) round.

You can get cheap 2" round augers for $100-200 at any farm store. They are light duty but sufficient for soil without rocks & roots. Heavier duty 2" round or the bigger ones are usually $350 & up.
