Thanks. Sounds like good practical advice.

Welcome Haldawson - As usual everbody has given out what little advice I could add. As you start to use implements just post your questions in attachments or Kubota owning froum and you shall not lack for help.

I can highly recommend the book. It's got a very heavy emphasis on safety, as it should, but also has a lot of info on techniques for productivity. Virtually no info on equipment, however.

I can't say enough about how much tractorbynet helped me. When I first got my tractor I knew almost nothing about it, but everytime I had a question, there always seemed to be a wealth of info in the archive. The most important thing I've learned, and others have mentioned, is TAKE IT SLOW! Any problems that you encounter will be greatly multiplied in severity by speed. Good Luck!

Hi Hal,
Lots of good advice already given ... I'll add a comment about an old John-Deere book (now out of print?) called The Operation, Care, and Repair of Farm Machinery.

The tractor-fundamentals section is basic, and the mecanical section outdated-but-useful (I have the 25th ed. - no date given).

Where it offers info I have not seen elsewhere, of use to a new owner, is the section on field-preparation. When to use a plow, harrow, tiller etc., ...what each does... types of , etc.

My JD dealer parts-dept. has no knowledge of a "current" edition. Got mine in the farm/ag section of a used book-store.

Might try the library of an ag.-college, if any are in your locale.

Ordering the ETR book and 2 safety videos today ( thanks, LarryT and MarkC!)

HTH,
Larry

Re: Learning how (Muhammed?)

Haven't had breakfast yet , so maybe I'm just being "picky", but...

Isn't this topic a bit general to be relegated to a "Brand-specific" forum? (or is it only "orange people" who need to "learn how" ...maybe blue ones and green ones already know it all :)

I know the list is "orange-heavy", but recent political events seem to illustrate that the majority doesn't always rule...so I thought I'd venture an opinion!

Re: Learning how (Muhammed?)

We might consider some changes, but right now I'm not really sure what they would be short of merging the brand forums together. I think that for the most part, most users still read most forums if they check in regularly...

Re: Learning how (Muhammed?)

Hi Larry,

Guess I can see how you might see things as brand related. In this case, someone bought a Kubota and wanted to know how he should learn to use it. I am not sure where I would have posted besides "Kubota Owning". In that you have not registered, I would guess you are new to the forum. I think with time you will see that there is great info under each subject area. Yes, sometimes we get off the subject and original subject gets lost. At times some of the best info comes out of these "side subjects". Hope you will sign up and share your experiences with the rest of us. As I continue to learn the best ways to use my tractor, I don't care what brand you have if you tell me how to do something better than I am doing it now.

Happy Holidays

Muhammed,

Thanks for the quick response.(I can't disagree, about the regular readers!)

Re: Learning how (Muhammed?)

Hi Mark,

I'm a little reluctant to make this point, because I am more than happy to accept any decision Muhammed makes, regarding this list...and I don't want to give any other impression.

But in the interest of accuracy, Hal DID state that he had a new Kubota, but his QUESTION related to the use of implements common to all tractors.

I won't post further on this, because I didn't want to be contentious...just to raise a point I thought was valid.

Best wishes,

Larry
