Hi Guys -

A friend of mine just bought a used LS MT352 (so jealous) with 25 hours on it. It seems to have a fairly good leak on one of the fitting on the right-hand side of the engine. I'm not familiar enough with the machine to say if its oil line or hydraulic (I think hydraulic). My question is, is there a way to tighten up this fitting without removing the line that it is attached to? Picture attached. Its leaking between the hex nut and the fitting (where the yellow line is). I'm fairly mechanical, and looking at how this is all plumbed, I think the line needs to be disconnected in order to tighten that fitting. Is there an o-ring or something in there that might be cut?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Joe

That looks to be the hydraulic pump and the line is the steering hose. That elbow, according to the service manual, is one piece. Doesn't say if its NPT, but I assume it is. Try to tighten it.

If NPT, tightening will change the orientation of the elbow fitting.

I'd suspect best procedure might be some sort of epoxy based product that would fill the thread spaces and not change orientation.
My personal 'go to' for that would be Flextra caulking but then any thick paste type should do the trick.

If indeed that is a pump, I'd strongly suspect that a crush washer or O ring is involved as I've not seen many pumps that used NPT pipe fittings.

We (I) tried to tightened the hex at the top of the elbow, but it didn't budge at all. It actually leaking from the little space between the elbow and the hex, which makes me believe I need to either tighten the elbow itself (which changes the orientation to the line) OR, there is a crush washer/o-ring that is not doing its job. I suppose I could try tightening the elbow and bending the line a little bit to get it to line up with the new orientation, but manually bending hydro lines makes me a bit nervous.

Strange that's not an ORB (O ring boss) fitting especially where it's going to a hard line. The attached is an ORB fitting to JIC but the ORB part is what I'd think your's is or at least should be. You can screw the fitting in to whatever angle you want and then tighten the nut against the washer which seals the O ring against a chamfer in the cylinder, valve or what have you.
Your hyd. line looks a bit wonky too, unless it's just the camera angle...........MIke

Maybe the connection for the tubing is a compression ferrule?

It's an ORB at the hex nut. So if it's leaking there it needs a new o-ring.

Yes it is a compression ferrule for the tubing.

That is the line out of the implement pump.

Your picture seems to indicate that the oil pressure sensor is unplugged.

Does the line in question look "wonkey" :) because it looks like it is angled? I dont' know if it was or if its the camera angle. I'll have to look. This line runs backwards along the frame and goes into a squarish box, should've taken a picture of that as well.

Where would the oil pressure sensor be in the picture? It only has about 25 hours on it, so maybe it vibrated loose?

To replace the o-ring, I'm assuming I'd have to disconnect the line from the elbow, then get a wrench on the hex and turn it out, from there a new o-ring... Would it be better just to get the entire fitting?

I appreciate all the help on this. I've been eyeing one of these myself, so this is all good info for me as well. :)

The line itself is angled a bit but you just have to make sure they both fit together fairly straight on. The picture makes it appear to fit together at an angle. That fitting is adjustable up and down and side to side. The nut seals a locks the fitting orientation.

The line disconnects from the fitting and if you need more flex from that line just follow the line back to a union fitting by the loader valve. You would discount at both so you can remove the line and fitting.

Since the tractor is so new the dealer should be able to fix it on site.

Nevermind about the sensor, my eyes were playing tricks.

Nobody mentioned or asked if the tractor is still under warranty (should be with only 25 hours). Take it to the dealer to get fixed. Remember the old phrase.... " you break it, you buy it! ". Why take the chance?
