What is ms? Is the smaller number better and is it something I can even notice?

Thank you,
Eddie

MS stands for Milliseconds, and smaller is better... It is hard to say what the human eye threshold is for detecting the difference.

At my last job, we built and tested PC's in numerous configurations. We used Viewsonic 22" wide screen for primary monitors, and 17" for secondary(cheaper, save space).

We got them from Newegg, and watched for deals.

I was really happy with them.

Newegg.

21" or 22" is a BIG monitor. I don't have the deskspace.

Newegg, and watch for sales.

22" monitors are wide, but so thin. I remember getting 21" NEC Multisync's 15 years ago. Those things had to be 30" deep

Eddie,
I don't know much about computers but my step son does. He recommended getting the LG 1933tr monitor. Check the specs you want and I think it meets them for a low price. I have 2 of them to view TBN and my Chinese tractor board at the same time. Really, I got them to do CAD drawing so I could see a view and a zoom view of the same area at the same time. I think they are terrific.

MS is milliseconds. That's the time it takes the screen to refresh. You want it to refresh fast if you watch motion video on it. If you are just looking at still pictures, slower isn't really noticeable, especially the difference between 5ms and 2ms. You should really compare some monitors side by side at a big box store to see the differences. Some will just plain pop out at you.

The 700:1, 2000:1 number is contrast ratio. It is the difference between the lightest and darkest things it can display. Bigger is better in this case.

Monitors are tricky because it is pretty hard to know what you are actually getting. Here is a site that may help. AnandTech - The LCD Thread
It is maddening that some manufacturers switch panels on some models without telling anyone and they are making it harder to tell what is inside as well. :(

Hum, Sounds suspicious. My 3 year old Dell 19" crt died yesterday. Did that small handfull of companies that makes these send out killer internet wave ?

I didnt have a spare. Im usually a research nut but busy at work and needed computer up and runing Quick. Stopped at nearest box store on way home, Circut City, did a quick look, and bought a LG 22". On sale from $ 320.00 down to 270.00. It's nice but might need more setup work, letters seem sort of grainy.

Just found this thread, luckily no one said don't buy a LG.

Make sure you're running at the maximum rated resolution, LCDs aren't like CRTs in that if you're running at a lower resolution the image often looks a little blurred. So if it's a 1280x1024 monitor you'll get pretty bad quality at 1024x768. This may mean that things get relatively smaller for you, but you may be able to tweak things like font sizes and colors if it bothers you.

I sit in front of a computer all day (programmer by trade). I got a 22" Samsung about 8 mos ago (2220WM) for $267 with shipping from Outpost.com. I've been extremely pleased with it. It also has speakers built in, so I was able to lose those from my desk too. (any space I can claim is a win, there are 5 computers on my desk :/).

As an aside, thanks a bunch everyone for your comments on this forum. I knew zero about tractors when I bought my BX24 a year ago, and have since logged 100hrs, cut trails through my woods, and dug a new driveway and home for a car port. Working on a trail down to the lake now. (My property is 2 acres. steeply sloped, on Lake Norris in TN). Hope to build a pole barn/workshop and read those articles with great interest too!
