The transmission you are looking for is really just a transaxle. It does not have gears to change speeds like some other transmissions. The 6 speeds on your MTD come from a belt and a variable speed pulley. The tighter the belt is to the pulley the faster the mower will travel and the looser the belt is the slower it will go. All that the transmission really does on your MTD is tranfer power from the drive belt to the rear whells and change direction. If you are having transmission problems you may want to check the drive belt and pulleys before replacing the transaxle. If you have to have a new transaxle you might be better off to order a new one if the mower isn't very old and is worth it.
