Hello I am trying to fix my sisters old 1998 DYT4000 It run fine the problem is when I turn on the PTO the mower shuts off If it’s the seat switch Is there any way to bypass it without cutting wires and is there any other things that I should look for The brake safety switch has been bypassed with one wire with same kind of connector on each end and that is inserted in two terminals on the right side of the plug I wanted to try and get it working to mow out back were I don’t want to take my JD Thank you

Are you sure that it is a 1998 tractor. This is a Sears Tractor. According to Tractor Data, this was only made in 2004.
Is the tractor gear driven or hydrostatic ?

The #917 is a clue to its contractor made for Craftsman...Rudimentary search say #917 was Husqvarna....
Typically brake need to be on and operator in seat (unless seat switch bypasses) for engine to start, once started PTO should engaged if operato is in seat with brake released....
Also It could possibly be this wiring diagram....

You have too many things going on here. Your seat switch may have a shorting clip in the connector, so that you are aware of that. A brake switch will have 2 terminals that are normally open and 2 that are normally closed. Only the brake and PTO switch is in the crank circuit. The seat is a run only circuit, but with the brake partially bypassed, we don't know what didn't complete the circuit. Your PTO switch also has a safety circuit.
