How many have the 40" or 48" inch lawn core aerators?

Will they do a decent job and hold up as well?

Any & all input is appreciated. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

To be honest I always rent an aerator when I need it. It seems like the rental places all use the "Bluebird" brand.

Very tough and well built, top welded tray for holding weights etc.

I prefer the core aerators.

I use a J.D. pull behind 48" core unit with C.C. blocks for ballast. I have used it for about 10 years! I have yet to replace the core teeth, but they are ready for replacement. The unit has worked well on many lawns. I like the simplicity of it, not much to go wrong.

I have used powered 3 pt. units and of course they worked well. I have used the walk behind rental units, and will again for small turf areas. It always seems to me like they go alot faster then they should, I guess that is the nature of the beast.

I tow the J.D. unit with one of the smaller tractors and find it works best for my needs. Obviously, soil condition is critical. I do my aerating in fall or early spring. With soil conditions right the unit will leave uniform 2.5" to 3" plugs.

The local Deere Dealer told me their 48" similar to Agri-Fab models was $550.00 or close thereabouts /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Way too pricy for what it is. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got about the same price from the JD dealer on their core aerator as well, but he would let a 'rental' unit go for about $400 to $450.. They looked like they were a little more solid built than the agri-fab.

For no more than I would use on I would buy the agri-fab... Northern Tool had their house brand aerator on sale today for $109.. it was 50" wide total, so i would guess it would be a 48"er. Not sure how it compares to agri-fab

I have a 48" that I bought at Home Depot for a lot less a couple of years ago. Only use it twice a year but works fine. Honestly don't know how one woud be any better that another. This is definitely an attachment that I would buy on price and not name.

I have a 48 inch wide core aerator that fits on the front of my tractor (on the lift arms) made by PowerTrac and made in the USA.
I could not have made a better choice as the lift arms allow you to use downward pressure to get the best plug.

The Agri-Fab at Lowes is what You would call $300.00 ($296.00 + change & 6% tax)

I agree the Deere unit looks a little better built but not $250.00 worth. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
