I'm exploring the ideas for building a dumping transport box for my 3 point.

I have a dirt scoop that has a release mechanism to dump but you have to take the weight off it in order to actuate it.

Any ideas out there in TBN land for different trip release mechanisms?

Thanks,
Lenny

Use a small hydraulic cylinder to unlatch the latch or a larger cylinder to dump it.

Check out the latches on the garden dump carts. With a long handle you should be able to release it from the seat.

My sheet metal yard trailer has a simple spring loaded, self latching catch. It has enough leverage to release even with a heavy load. It would be easy to make one as heavy as was needed. ps... Spring is missing in the photo but it gives you an idea.

That is the same latch that is on my little dump cart.

But I don't always unlatch to dump. :D

There are several "gun trigger" designs that will let you pivot the box so that it will gravity dump when released, regardless of the load. These are two-stage latches;.

What about scavenging the hood release set-up from a car/truck & just remove/disable the secondary safety latch.

I would eliminate the tailgate altogether by building a sloped bottom on the rear portion of your box.

We used to have a 36' (ON road) end dump rock trailer like that. My most frustrating experience was travelling down a highway miles behind a dump truck with an unlatched tailgate that had spilled a trail of fill material.

Motorists behind me all assumed it was from MY obviously non tailgated trailer.
