Looks like u aquire yours like I have mine Larry with the same results, you take in this poor pitiful thing with a few bad habits and with a little love and care you get this wonderful, loving, addition to the family with a few bad habits:laughing::thumbsup:

Very sorry to hear about your loss. I've lost some good ones too. I guess I am a forever big dog person. I have had limited experience with small dogs and have nothing bad to say about dogs of any size. But the big dogs have always stayed with me. They are always at my side. Maybe in a downpour of rain they may crawl under a wagon or trailer to stay dry. But they won't leave me. I owe the big dogs a little for that.

One of the best dogs I ever had was an English Springer Spanial. I raised him from a pup and he was a natural hunter. I'd take him pheasant hunting where he would instinctivly quarter and flush birds better than the other professionally trained dogs around him. He was a joy to watch with his liver and white markings flashing in the sun. Whenever I missed a bird he had flushed, I'd get a miffed look from him as if to say, "Hey, I did my job--How about you doing yours."
He was also a great family dog, watching out for our 3 adopted daughters when they were young. He was as calm as could be, never intrusive, but always there when you needed him. Rusty was with us for 14 years. A great all around dog.

We have owned 2 German Shorthaired Pointers and can't imagine any other breed. Our first one went 16 years and the present one is 8 1/2. Great in the house and with kids. They do need to get a good run once a day to burn off some energy. Both of ours have been female and just over 50 lbs. Might want to take a look at GSP's as well.
