The company i work for has recently begun putting up the largest US flag on the highest flagpole in the nation. So far the pole is about 2/3 up and is going to be an awesome sight once finished!!

The final measurements will be:
the pole will measure 338' high, it will be 6' in diameter at the base, weigh 65 tons, and have a 2000 pound ball at the top

the flag will measure out to 7200 square feet. each star will be 4.5 feet tall

i will try to post a picture of it when it is completed.

Yep, and quite naturally, that flag and pole were made in Texas in my area. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif There was a story about it and the company that made it in the Dallas Morning News a few days ago. I'm not sure whether this link will work since you normally have to register to read the paper online, but I'll give it a try. Yeah, it worked.

yup, it's from texas alright. i talked to one of the guys erecting it today, and if all goes well the last few pieces will be in place tomorrow.

today is spent putting together the monster crane that is needed for the last part.

Where in WI will it be located? Next time I go back home I would love to check it out.

338'?! Too cool!

Bird, the link worked, but the site asked me to register; I was too lazy to actually complete the registration to proceed, but I like the way my imagination has already painted the picture so beautifully anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif BTW, just why do you Texans insist on having the biggest everything?! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

if you drive up highway 43 from milwaukee to green bay, it will be pretty much in the middle (sheboygan). it is right along the road so there is NO WAY you could miss it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I believe that the present record for the largest flag is held by the New York Port Authority on the George Washington bridge...

( The New Jersey tower of the bridge stores the largest free-flying flag in the world. Flown on holidays over the roadway, the 475-pound U.S. flag, which measures 60 feet by 90 feet, features five-foot-wide stripes and three-foot-wide stars. )

About 3/4 of the way down on the page..... web page

junkman

your quote says that flag is 60x90. that would be 5400sqft. this one going up will be 7200sqft /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

both are monstrous flags.

My first house was on a lot 50 ft by 100 ft, or 5,000 square feet. Both these flags are larger then that. AMAZING!!!!
