Just wondering what others charge for equipment use on the job? How much do you charge by the hour 30, 40, 50 bucks an hour for tractor use? Do people charge the same price for loader work as they do backhoe work? Should it cost the same to remove stumps, as it does to dig a water line? Should it cost the same to spread topsoil on a lawn installation as anything else? Is it best to charge a flat tractor fee no matter the tractors use on the job?

I'm looking to add a tractor with a backhoe (probably a TC30) to may landscaping small business but am unsure what to charge for its uses. Any help from others familiar or in the business what be great. I just need a starting point or frame of reference.

Prices can and do, vary across the nation. Without knowing were you are located makes it difficult for anyone to answer your question.

I charge the same for any piece of equipment that I use 1 ton dump truck,3.5 ton excavator, tractor c/w attachments, and if I use 2 pieces at the same time even if operating by myself double price. My prices are based on the most expensive piece of equipment the excavator and find that people do not mind paying the same price for the others as it is usually only for a short time.IMHO the easiest way is one price and that being for the hardest work, maybe moving stumps. So if your happy with 50 a hour than 50 is the price for all.As you know everything is always negotiable any ways.I found too many prices confuses everyone including me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

$55 to $65 for small stuff like a JD 310 back hoe or class 8 dump. Big wheel loader (1.7 yard or bigger) goes for $110 per hour. 300 to 400 track hoe are $250 plus per hour. It all varies from state to state. Those prices are for the Canton, GA area. In GA, equipment operators make $10 to $25 an hour doing the same work. So, the prices can vary a great deal in the Atlanta area. Same guy making $17 an hour in Atlanta would probably make $10 to $12 in the more rural areas. Same goes for equipment rentals. The really small stuff like a 4310 JD (box blade, bush hog etc.) compact goes for $40 or so, I don't know how they make it at those prices with the tractor payment, fuel prices, repairs etc..
