I was told that using a landscape rake with alternating tines removed would work quite well as a replacement for a chain harrow for cleaning up the pasture, breaking up manure etc. Anyone had any experience using a rake this way? Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not really. It is common to vary the number of tines depending on what stuff one is working on. If I have all the tines in my 6' rake, it lets very little through, and I have to stop the tractor frequently to clear it out unless I'm working on stuff an inch or less in diameter. I suppose you could start out by removing 2 of every 3 blades, for coarse dirt clod work, and go to an every other blade situation for finer work. I only use all tines when combing the driveway gravel - probably the optimal way to groom gravel or fine dirt (or a sand trap). That said, a long chain harrow will take large clods, and reduce them to graded dirt, in a pass or 2.

Before going through all that effort, try turning the rake around 180 degrees and see if you like the results. It won't tear up the pasture as much, things won't get caught in the tines, and you won't have to spend an hour removing then replacing the tines.
