howdy gang, i intend to level out my yard with a 3pt landscape rake. my question is: when going over numerous hills and small mounds, will i have to adjust the 3pt level constantly to make sure i rake at contant depth? or, is that what "gauge wheels" are for ? i also have a "gently rolling" 5 foot deep ditch that i want to "smooth" out.
mucho thanks, bob from mich

Unless the dirt mounds you refer to are really loose fresh spread dirt the rake will not do a good job of "Leveling" but will smooth it out. Actual leveling is better done with a backblade or boxblade. The rake will follow gradual contours and ride on the surface for the most part. The guage wheels prevent the teeth from sinking in too much and digging depending on how you have them set. If you just want to clear rocks by lightly raking the surface guage wheels are the way to go. It reduces the downpressure and reduces taking up a lot of dirt which is what you want if all you're doing is clearing rocks. Guess it kind of depends on what you're trying to accomplish.
