I have a lot of rocks in a clearing I just made. Need to clean it up. A landscape rake is what I here is best for this. The best buy I can find is one from tractor supply store. A 72" Countryline is $470 but is this unit a throw away or good? Any input on this? Thanks

I bought mine from TSC about 15 years ago. It still is in good shape and I've only broken one tine. For rocks I remove half of the tines to let the fines pass through. With larger rocks, wider spaced tines.

Got an 8' Cat II rake by York. Lots more $ than the TSC one, but absolutely bulletproof.

Read a note that a guy took every other tine off to do rock removal? Is this common or needed? I am looking at using one to clear very rocky soil,,,0 to 12" rocks everywhere. The space is about two acres and 1400' of rough road.

Those 0" rocks are very hard to rake. They slip right through the tines. :)

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Windrowing the larger rocks, while allowing smaller to pass through, removing tines reduces plugging with debris. You do what you need to do to achieve your intended results.

I bought my rock/landscape rake from an auction of surplus and old rental equipment. Well used and some tines bent, rusty, etc. But there's nothing that I couldn't fix. Cost me $100. Straightened the tines with a wire loop and a 2 by 4. Doesn't look pretty, but works on shaping my mile-long gravel drive. Wonderful at taking rocks out of a new garden plot.

Unless they have changed, the Countrline rake used two shallow u-channels for the main beam and have been shown here on TBN to easily bend. Look at the other brands. If you want less expensive, look at KK, EverrythingAttachments or Leinback. More heavy duty, Woods, York and LandPride.
