Hello to all and it's my first post here......(hope I'm in the right forum!!)

I am at the point of buying a new mower........I am dealing with about 30 acres of pasture....mostly flat or gentle slopes......a few small pine saplings smaller than 1" to deal with.....
question::
Will the 18 series 60" Landpride mower stand up to this?? I have an older model 50 hp Mahindra to make it happen with right now....I will be going to a 35/40 newer tractor in the next year.....thus the 5" cutter...

any observations (track record) about this particular size and type mower??

thanks for any help...:

I have the 84" Landpride on less tractor than you have now and it does a fine job. On 24" grass I raise it up a bit, then make a second cutting a week later.

I've been known to sharpen it a few times.

I just asked my dealer about the RCR18-72". I have a 40 Case DX 40 and he said that the RCR18 would be fine if I only wanted to cut grass and weeds. If I wanted to cut small saplings (I asked about size and waiting his response) I would need to go one size larger (RCR26). He stated that the RCR26 might be too much for my DX40. If others have a good experience with the RCR18 cutting small saplings and such, please let us know. Thanks.

thanks for the help with this.........I am not only new to this board....but to everything about farming pretty much........helped my grand-dad about 35 years ago..........but I am sure looking forward to easing into this as I near retirement......(can't come too soon for me!!!!!)...

I suspect the RCR 26 would also be a little heavy for the tractor I plan to be using down the road a spell also...

thanks again and I'll be checking this site often for this and other advice...

I have used my LP RCR1872 with my old L3130 and other than slowing down in thick growth had no issues with it. I did chop down 1"+ brush with no issues either. I have not used it yet with my new L5740, so should be intersting.

well you might want to consider a brush mower. Y can at least cut it when it is 24 inches high when it gets ahead of you

I have a 6 foot landpride rotary cutter that I run with a 35 hp Centruy tractor. It's about as big a mower that it can handle, but it can handle it easily. I've taken out saplings allot bigger then an inch with it too. I heard and know for a fact that if I can run it over, I can cut it up with that mower!!! It's not rated for what I've done with it, but that's never stoped me.

Once you get the field cut for the first time, a finish mower is allot faster and easier to maintain it if you want it kept cut down. I have a 7ft landpride finish mower that I use for cutting grass. Now saplings or brush, just grass. I'll cut grass 6 inches tall without any problems at all!!! The finish mower is faster to cut with and doesn't take as much watching with the four wheels on it. I can also cut in wet conditions since the mower is supported by the tires, and not the tractor. The rotary cutter gets me stuck in the mud because of all the weight on the rear tires.

30 acres is a crazy amount to cut with a small tractor. A five 5 mower will take a very long time. I can't even imagine what a nightmare that will turn into really quickly. I do for and five acre fields and they take over an hour each.

thanks to everyone for the tips and info..............after reading them I suspect that I will stay with a Landpride mower but maybe go to the 6' model.....

I don't have any of the real tall stuff to mow only the small pine saplings.......and I only plan to mow it once a year........I will have cows and a few goats on it after putting in some winter grazing this fall....

I'll bet it will take a while, but I will just have to ooze thru it with the old Mahindra......

I plan to post pics of our adventure and I will surely be looking for help with future decisions about equipment and techniques.....
thanks again..
