Believe me, I know. My daily driver is 86 CJ7 rain or shine.

You probably will not have an issue with the CJ7. From inception in 1939 or 1940, MB, CJ2, CJ3, CJ5, M38, CJ6, until tha "new" style CJ5 and CJ7 in '76, the Jeep line had a "c" channel frame(it was boxed at the motor mounts). Those frames really flexed, and like to break at the spring hangars. Not all the time or anythin, but if you wheeled hard, you would probably see issues.

With the advent of the newer series CJ5, and the CJ7 in '76/77, they went to a box frame. No more frame cracking...

A Tale of two managements. The view was British cars are garbage because the workers dont know how to work and the unions are killing the industry. Well, the Germans took over the Mini and for probably the first time in history the British make (sorry assemble) a car that is thick on the ground. Ford takes over Land Rover and the other threads tell the story.

Ford has not had the Landrover/Range Rovers for that long, for what its worth Ford supposedly pretty much has left the Rover group a stand alone business from the Ford motor division ( so they say).
I know there has been some issues with the older Discoveries. We really like the Discovery it seats 7 and makes a nice family vehicle for out here in the country. My biggest gripe is too many bells and whistles/gadgets that can fail. But I got a good buy on the vehicle a few years ago and it has served us well.

From the input I have gotten it appears the consensus is that the Land Rovers/ Range Rovers are pretty much overated and trouble prone in some minds junk.

How does the Dodge made Durango SUV compare as an suv,I have not heard many of you mention the Durango.

I had a range Rover and it couldn't do this - that's why I bought a Hummer.

I've only driven 4x4's since 1967, from a 52, jeep, Power wagon, Land cruiser, Jimmy,Sierra 4x4, Range rover, Excursion, Expedition, GMC stake bodies, Suzuki's, Jeep Rubicon, etc. etc. etc.

I abuse my four wheel drives, that's how I rate them. This Hummer took everything I could throw at it,and begged for more.

I had it in snow over the headlights and it didn't even phase it, climbed like a billy goat, went through mud like a pig, and floated over sand like a camel, and could pull a freight train.

Of course the 5 miles per gallon was miserable.

Yeah, I suppose. Here's a picture of my IH2500b that was made in England... you be the judge :p

Just kidding, but really, it ran fine and the HST was still working strong when it went to the great salvage yard in the sky!

Have you never seen what landrover 90's and 110's ,defenders do with a few mods...**** sure that one spare wheel you have there would be touching the ground with a landrover ,Range rover is not a comparison .
Genuine land rover is a 4x4 to compete with anything ?
Range rover is a quality suburban that holds its own
Free landers and all that junk are not real landrovers and use a "Soccer mom" technology and were a flop like bmw's?
How many years did Landrover hold the "Paris Dakar" rally title (Now held by Japanese) to my dissapointment ?
Sadly ....Look at the "pimp" mobile today...Escalade or range rover ?

Who is the world market leader of construction equipment ..JCB...British,outsell cat and JD combined ....TVR,Jaguar ...Who builds better ,Granted that the british have sold out recently but so has the US .They will not tell you so but the good old fords still outsell the germans in britian.
Nobody has a 2.5 turbo diesel like landrover .
When landrover went to the "TD5" the 4 cyl turbo went up for sale and british and US military took as a "De-tuned" basic motor and bought all they could get ...G wagon..Ha...Ha ?
