Land Pride SGC0660 vs SGC1060 Grapple

BigShooter81 should be a political speech writer. That answer would fertilize 40 acres. A wider grapple will make brush collection easier - I guess.

My grapple is 60" wide - the front wheels are 66" wide. My Land Pride SGC1560 grapple has worked perfectly for the five years since I bought it.

Do I use it heavily - - I pick and move chunks of Ponderosa pine weighing up to 3100 pounds. I pick and move big 'ol rock up to and including 3000 pounds.

The grapple is particularly good for back dragging and smoothing. Also great for back dragging and gathering limbs from downed pine trees.

Over the five years I've use it - managed to chip some of the powdercoat off the tines and that's all.

BTW - do your tractor a favor and modify your OEM brush guard. See what mine looks like in the three pictures. That's expanded metal welded to my OEM guard.

Thank you for your feedback BigShooter81. I appreciate that you have direct experience with the equipment I am looking at.

Do you use push the tines into the ground to grub small roots? I have a lot of briar and tree saplings which will grow back if they are not plucked out. My hope is that the grapple would help with that. Do you use it to do any back dragging? Have you had any issues with the relatively wide tine spacing?

I might be looking at too much ground engaging work for the grapple. I still want to transfer brush piles around. I suppose a piranha bar might work better for some of the other work I'm thinking about. My soil is very sandy, so most of the resistance to ground engaging work will be from roots.

I use mine as a general purpose tool. It clears small growth well, carries brush well, and even can grub well.

It's isn't a stump grapple. If I was hauling logs all day long, I'd want something with extended teeth on the bottom.

But for engaging the ground as root grapple, it's teeth are nice and close to the loader frame for precise control and rigidity. I back drag with the top jaw opened and curled down. Infact, I've planted food plots doing this working it as a cultivator. For moving brush the design is excellent. No long protruding teeth or serrations to get hung up on when dumping. I've hauled boulders, grabbed big pieces of slab concrete, plucked large vines from elevated spots on trees, etc....

It does lots of things well, but isn't going to rake up tiny roots if thats what you're looking for. With the short bottom jaws it plucks bushes and saplings like carrots. Something the longer bottom jawed grapples must disturbs the adjacent earth to get under and pluck it would seem.

If you like the 1060 better get it. Your only penalty is a reduction in 140# of material lift capacity. That is assuming the grapples have the same distance from your front axle. I don't know the answer to that question. The LA 525 lifts 1182# at a 1.5M height and 500mm distance from your pins according to tractor data. The difference is a 792# material lift capacity versus 932# at 500mm.

Concerning width of grapple. I bought a 72" grapple because that was what was available at the distributor. IMHO 60" vs 66" v 72" was not that important as long as the tractor could handle the added weight of the additional width. Width of implement IMHO is more important with rear mounted attachments.

A grapple doesn't have to be as wide as tractor if you wont be using it heavily. Width gives you a little more stability handling the brush/logs, but it's not like a mower that you need to cover your tracks. My machine is 82"wide, my grapple is 78" ...works just fineView attachment 577579View attachment 577580

Same. My machine is about 78 and the grapple 72. Works just fine for me.

I guess it depends on your tasks. I would get the lightest grapple you can that will hold up to the tasks you are doing. If you go the EA route, remember you will be waiting a few months. Once they get their mfg under control I will definitely consider them again. They make great stuff, but so does LP.

I have the SGC1572, it works great.

After using my SGC0660 some more I can see the benefit of the saw tooth teeth on the EA and larger LP grapples. They would be helpful for more log related work. Overall brush piling and pushing has been good. Can't pick up individual small pieces bur can rake it into a pile and then grab it or push it. Have done a very little root grubbing and it works okay on trees up to about 3 in or so diameter. My L2501 seems to run out of traction more so than the grapple not working. I'm still happy with mine but the EA 55 inch one would be a very good choice. Having any grapple is awesome. 20181104_102601.jpeg

Hi Jchonline-
I'm curious if you considered the SGC1072 before choosing the SGC1572. I'm trying to decide between the 1060 & 1560 but not sure of the differences. I do know the 1560 is $1,000.00 more at my dealer, as well as 428lbs. heavier. I would be curious of your pros/cons based on your needs.

Thanks,
Dave

Geotech I have a 2501 with a 1060, my dealer let me try a 660 first for me the tines on the bottom are not for pulling roots it has a piece of pipe running the length about 5 in up limits the ability of it to get the roots out. It is lighter but not nearly as heavy duty as the 1060, it is a beast the tines are much longer work well for roots and clearing the thickest brush. I have a piranha bar also but rarely use it, it is heavier 360lbs but I can still pick up quite a bit you won't be disappointed with the 1060 just my opinion. 20180908_152942.jpg20180702_141035.jpg20180702_124424.jpg

Thanks Maxl. Really appreciate the input. That thing is a beast. I just bought the L2501 today. I ended up going with the 660, but that 1060 looks great!

Reading this thread has been very helpful. I am purchasing a L3560LE with the LA805 loader, and I am making my final decisions re: which grapple and box blade to get. I'm not getting what I consider very competitive pricing from my dealer on the Landpride products I'm looking at (SGC0660 grapple and BB2572 box blade). I'm looking at Armstrong Ag implements, which are in stock at a few local dealers and seem to be very heavy duty (BGR-mini 60" grapple is 440lbs) and less expensive. I like the idea of the saw teeth on the BGR-mini compared to the 0660, and my LA805 should have plenty of lift capacity to handle the extra weight. The EA and Homestead grapples also look great, but I'm not thrilled with a 2-month+ wait.....Regardless, I can't wait to get my new tractor in a couple weeks!
