So reading this forum is definetely getting very expensive to read, I decided I need a box scraper to go with my new tractor to maintain my driveways, I called the dealer he is selling me on a Land Pride 84" I was curious to find out your experiences with this product? Thanks again for the help.

The majority of my stuff is Land Pride it is well made, parts are widely available and very rugged. If the price is right I wouldn't hesitate.

I second the vote of confidence in Land Pride.
I have both a bushhog (rotary cutter) and a finishing mower.
Well made, easy to maintain, very rugged.
Granted a box blade doesn't require much, if any maintenance, but if the Land Pride box blade is as rugged as their mowers, it should be a good product.

I would double check with your dealer on which 'series' box blade that is from LandPride. They make a lighter duty '15' series and if that is what you would be buying from the dealer then I would not buy it. LandPride also makes a '25' series box blade that is heavier duty, that is the one you should consider.

The problem is that as tractor sizes go up, and consequently implement sizes go up, your larger tractor can more easily destroy a lighter duty, but large implement. A 'sprung' box blade is totally worthless and I'd hate to see you have to buy a new blade because you bought too light the first time around. With smaller tractors this is far less of an issue. But if you have a tractor large enough to handle an 84" box blade, then make sure you get the heaviest, strongest one you can find. Spending an extra $100 today will save you from replacing a cheap box blade a few months from now and spending your money twice.

Thank you guys for the information,

Bob,
I will definetely check with the dealer on model of box blade, I am getting the 3830 with the tires widened to about 70 inches, so the dealer says I wan't the box blade to be wider than the rear tires, so he is recommending the 84"? any thoughts on this? do I need one that big? Will the 3830 pull it no problem? Thanks

I have a M5700 and a woods 84 inch box blade which is several hundred lbs. heavier than the Land Pride. Works great but Its about all my tractor will handle in heavy soil. I don't think you are going to be happy with that wide of a box blade on that size tractor unless the driveway is all you use it for.

I am often concervative in what I recommend. The problem with making recommendations is that we each use things differently. So let me just say I think I would search around for a BB that is roughly 72" wide if your tires are 70" wide. I'd also suggest that a tractor can groom a gravel drive way easier than it can tear up hard packed clay soil. Sandy soild will be a piece of cake for an implement that would stop you dead in clay. So not knowing what your intentions are, and not knowing your soil and all sorts of other things, I think I'd stick with the smallest I could use.

Now if you are limiting your uses to grooming a driveway then I would not use a Box Blade at all. There are better tools. A GradeMaster or a DuraGrader are better choices for grooming gravel drives; both work the same but they are made by different companies.

You may want to reveiw this thread about Box Blades, there is some discussion about both the GradeMaster and the DuraGrader at the very end. Box Blade Photo Comparison & Discussion

Thanks for the reply's, I will mostly be maintaining the gravel driveways that are relatively steep, with one big gravel parking area, I am not real well versed with the use of a box blade, so I am not sure what other uses I would have for it? What other reasons do you all use them for?

I need to clear and tear all my land up to make pasture but have been told a box blade is not real useful for this. I do have a lot of filling to do and leveling as I put in my lawn and try to make my land more useful. What does the duragrader run? I thought that 84" would be a little wide? So does the box blade need to be wider than the rear tires? With the tires set at 70" then 72" box blade would be good?

Thanks again

I have a Land Pride landscape rake (LR1584) with wheels and a tilt blade (RBT1584). Both are well made and do the job.

I have a 650' steep gravel driveway to maintain after winter plowing and occasional heavy rains. The rake is a great tool for maintenance: I first bring the outlying material back in and then reshape the crown. The tilt blade does the ditch line and forms side bars to carry water away. I have a hard time envisioning how a box scraper would be able to take care of my gravel driveway.
