My wife was getting tired of all the bumps and side to side rocking while driving down our gravel driveway- about 1/3 mile from the pavement to the house, so I bought a LPGS- land pride brand 7'.
I set the rippers 1.5" deep and made a pass down 1 side and back up the other, pulled the rippers even with the blade and made another pass in each direction, then back drug it with the loader. Man- what a difference. I'll probably smooth it again tomorrow after work.
Now I have another 1/2 mile of road to do to get to the back of the property, we are putting a greenhouse back there to use our pond for the water supply.
Really glad I chose this over a box blade. It will make smooth roads an easy project.

Not much of a learning curve needed with a land plane like a grader blade or BB. They make it some easy work.

Curious, why back drag with the loader? You should have a very good surface with just the LPGS. If you want it even smoother, then use the LPGS in reverse. Makes the finish very smooth and even. ;)

If you were looking to pack it down after using the LPGS - just go back/forth with your tractor.

I made a few more passes yesterday and tried using the LPGS in reverse- worked pretty good like that. Thanks for the info. The road is pretty smooth now.

Just be careful back dragging with the loader, it’s easy to bend your hydraulic cylinders that way.

Yes indeed, I have seen several posts here on TBN where this happened. I myself have done it countless times with no problem....... as they say, "All good things must come to an end". I just replaced 2 cylinders damaged by back dragging. I bent both rods and cracked both gland nuts.

If you need to use the loader to back drag, have the bucket flat or tilted forward only a small amount. Less than 15* I believe is the recommended safe amount of tilt recommended for most loaders. ;)
