I rented a field to a local farmer in town I don't know how many acres it is but we agreed on 10 at 25.00 a acres. I should found out first before I rented it now my question is, is the rent by month or year?.

What county are you in?

The USDA reports average cash rents by county for cropland and pasture at USDA/NASS QuickStats Ad-hoc Query Tool. There is considerable variability within and across counties, but the Wisconsin 2014 averages were $135/acre/year for cropland and $34/acre/year for pasture.

Edit -- In my experience, the standard practice is to quote cash land rents in $/acre/year.

Our cropland is rented by the year as is customary in my part of the country.
