I have R4 tire, but the dealer said that chains would not work because of the fender clearance.

Does anyone use chains on one of these (Grand L's)?

Normally by the time the tire gets to where the chains might be a plus if the snow removal equipment is working, THERE ISN'T ANY!!!

At best the chains are only good on some ice conditions.

sorry to bring up an old thread but i have a 5240 with r4 and yes the chains make a HUGE difference and clearance is close but fine. i have double link road chains on the front and back. they were pricey but worth every penny

You may need to install spacers, but chains will fit if you use them.

I've got a new set for my 3540 and they fit my R4s. Never really used them as the 4x4 is more than adequate for moving snow. (Don't want to damage my garage floor either)

I just got a set of net chains, or European truck chains, from Tirechains.com, which weren't what I orginally thought I wanted, but of course everybody is out of stock after this winter's storms, and I think they would be great for lugged tires. These are really well made chains, and I found Tirechains.com super to work with- quick, helpfull replies, quicker shipping, etc. Maybe now it won't snow again this winter now that I am equipped.

TMC2318, I have a 3240 (same tire size as 3540) and am purchasing chains from tirechains.com for my R4s. What style chains do you have, is the clearance OK, and do the chains fall between the lugs like others are saying?

Thanks for the info.

I purchased two link ladder chains for my B3030 with R4's. I found that the connection link rubbed the back part of the fender well. After removing the rear wheels and trimming about an inch and a quarter off the bottom of the inside fender ... no more rubbing. Of course I primed and painted the exposed steel. Next month I will be upgrading to a L5740 HSTC, I'm tired of being wet and cold!

I think I got the DUO-GRIP V-BAR but would have to look - it takes a bit of modification to make them work as the width is fine but the length was about 16" or 18" too long. Had to cut off a section on both sides but after that they were fine. Just keep them tight and across the outside of the tire I use 2 tie-straps in an X to also keep them tight.

Thanks for the info TMC. I just got the duo-grips and have not put them on yet. I had some concerns about clearance, but feel better about the fit after getting your reply.
