What is the main difference between a L48 TLB and a bigger L (L5030) with the optional loader and backhoe?

I am not a contractor, but want to do as many things as possible with maximum flexibility. The L48 appears to have a quick detach hoe which exposes the pto & 3ph when removed.

Is there a big price difference if each is outfitted in a similar way?

Thanks for any comments.

There is a huge price difference, if your not a contractor, then you don't need the L48.

Plain and simple, the L48 is made to be the most rugged thing out there. You can jump on the hood and not dent it. Its built like an absolute tank and will take all the abuse you can throw at it. Spec wise, its not a whole lot more than the L30's. Its just way over built.

Yooperdave,

Run up US 41-141 just north of Lena, Wi. I don't remember the name of the dealer, but they have an L48 there in view from the road and I think they have a L5030 or 4630. They also have a IR570 on the lot.

I have only owed a L35 and not a L48 so, I have no idea of what the L5030 would do. A freind's husband just got a new L5030 cab last fall but I have not stopped over to see it or try it out. Too much snow and too little time.

If you drive west of Green Bay on 54 - 57 to New Franken Service Motors will have my L48 there soon to repair the steering cylinder drift. It has a 4in1 ATI bucket on it.

Good luck with things.
Gray.

Also, the FEL on an L48 is an integral part of the unit and does not detach. On the L's the FEL comes off in about 30 seconds so you don't need to carry it around when mowing, etc. Maybe Rat will jump in here... former L48 owner who traded over for an L3830, I think, as his needs changed.

Dave:

You ever going to buy a tractor or will you wait until I trade in my 5030 and buy that??

Grandad is right, the 48TLB's loader is non removable. Mine comes off in 30 seconds or so. Lately, however, I just dis-mount the bucket and leave it outside. I am too lazy to remove the bale spear.

Don't jump on the hood of the 5030. It will dent.

The L48 has quite a bit more loader then the the L5030's LA 853. It has a planetary gear set on the rear end. The speed ranges for low and medium are half of what the L5030 is. The hydraulic pump totals (3 pumps) is about twice that of the L5030. The loader is integral which means it just does not develop play where it is attached to the tractor. It has a reversible seat for the hoe and also swivels about 20 degrees to the right for looking backwards easier. The hoe on it is quite a bit more powerful and more digging depth/reach. The engine is virtually the same engine. Tires are a little different in size. L48 does not have cruise control, it does have loader bucket leveling. The L48 comes with all the hoe hydraulics whether you get the hoe or not. L5030 has a cab option. The L48 uses 3 hydraulic filters vs 2 for the L5030. The L48 only has HST. The L48 has much thicker hood/front end steel. Finally, they are both great tractors. Depends on your needs. If you mow, the L30's are much better. For a lot of hoe and loader work, the L48 would possibly be a better choice. Rat...

Hi Daryl,

I had a $35,000 order ready to go with a larger Power trac unit + a couple dozen attachments a couple of weeks ago.

They use a air cooled Deutz diesel engine with no glow plug.

I would have no glow plugs to get up and running in the worst of winter, so I passed. My Kubota F2400 sure likes a glow plug session prior to firing right up.

I am going to look at JD, Kubota, & New Holland on my way north tomorrow morning.

We'll see who wants to sell me a tractor.

Dave:

The Deutz doesn't need glow plugs as it is direct injection and compression fired. It is a great engine. I had a buddy with one that he converted to propane. They also use the engine in Ottawa yard horses. You can't kill them though they do tend to leak a little oil.

The L48 is uglier than a mud fence too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Probably blend right in where you live though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

5030.

I must say, the L48 could use a little style.

I will keep it though. It is one powerful CUT.

My guess is, after the new L35 and all it's upgrades come out the L48 will soon follow and then it will not be as ugly and may even be better in some ways. Until then, I am stuck with and happy with ugly.

Sure do like the NH Boomers looks.
