Oil & Fuel L48 Oil Pressure Light

I bought a used L48 that I've put 350hrs on it. When using backhoe with stabilizers extended, if I lift the front of tractor with the loader the oil pressure light illuminates or flickers. I spent all summer and fall using the backhoe with just the stabilizers, so the light wouldn't come on. The thing that makes me think it isn't an oil pressure issue is that the light stays on after I release the loader control lever. After I release the loader control, there shouldn't be any strain on the hydraulic pump. Something seems screwy. Does anybody have a similar experience with the L48? The hydraulics on the tractor are strong. It is no problem for the loader to lift the front end.

If I understand you question correctly then engine oil low pressure light should not have anything to do with the load on the hyd. system (as far as I know)... I would install a mechanical gauge to see how much oil pressure you have at idle, working rpm etc. If the additional load on the motor by the hyd. pump is causing to oil light to come on it needs to be checked out before possible damage occurs..

Yes, I agree. Why would engine oil pressure have anything to do with hydraulic load. This is especially true since the light stays on after loader control is released and hydraulic pump is no longer providing hydraulic pressure. It's screwy.

It does sound screwy. The only thing I can think of is that when you lift the front the oil in the pan moves toward the rear. I assume you checked all the oil levels though.

Let us know when you get this one figured out.

the l 48 does have a front mount pump for hoe use.. I would look at that pump. from the engine crank dampner, you will see the pump in front and under the radiator,
