Tractor
Kubota L4701
Recently purchased a L 4701 with front loader and backhoe with quick hitch. It was delivered on 6/18/18. I have since then removed the backhoe and set up a quick hitch with my woods rotary cutter. Keep in mind only 8.5hrs on machine at this point. On 6/26 I took the machine down the road in 4th high range in 2 wheel drive to mow a lot I recently purchased, the tractor locked up after about 1 mile down the road when I reduced the speed. Nearly threw me off the tractor. Tried restarting it and moving it in 4wheel drive, 2wheel drive and high and low range. I even put the tractor in neutral and would still not move. Dealer picked up the tractor and cutter after notifying them I was on the road, stuck. MY question is should I take this tractor back after such an incident. Under warranty but who knows what damage was done and what problems I would have down the road after warranty. When this happened I noticed grinding noise at both the gear shift area and front axle. I am new to this forum and this is my first Kubota. Any comments or suggestions on my recourse would be appreciated. Right now I am pretty sick about it. Thanks

Very strange problem! That’s gotta be irritating.

I’m assuming this tractor is a manual transmission? Next question is.... are you sure you were in 2wd?

Honestly if it was my tractor I would want a new one. It’s brand new and should not have any issues... especially something like this!

Sounds like something sheared off in transmission. Possibly component that wasn’t tightened properly at factory. That’s a real bummer. What is dealer saying?

Dealer states a bearing in front axle. ordering new front axle. Still concerned about other damage down the road

Stupid curiosity do those axles come from the factory filled or does the dealer do that as part of their prep? Maybe someone forgot?

Should be fine if they are replacing front axle.

Some of the Kubotas the dealer installs one of the axles knuckles. They may have forgotten to fill axle with fluid.

Does anyone know if they come filled or does dealer fill the axle?

Since it is new I believe you have a very long warranty, like 5 years. I wouldn't worry about it especially if your dealer has been quick to pick it up and give you a diagnosis. Some here have talked about their dealer being so complacent once they sold a tractor it can take a month to get a diagnosis on a breakdown.

Dealer should be responsible for front axle fill and fluid levels should be part of the pdi.

Did you check any fluid levels after delivery? I would suggest checking everything once you get it back.
