Thank you very much for all the comments.

one thing I was hoping to do was have the front end loader with skid-loader attach, and rent skid loader accessories. I was hoping to get additional hydraulic connection for this to control additional features other than the height and angle of the attachment.

I understand as of yesterday that the hydraulics on a typical tractor will support additional connection for something like a grapple, but not a running load (like a landscape rake). How do I verify the need and supportability of this 3rd hydraulic connection and various attachments? I was really hoping to use the landscape rake...

Is is possible/feasible/wise to upgrade the hydraulic flow in a given tractor? (say L3400 L4400 L4330 or L4240??)

TexasJohn: I will strive to use the search feature - believe it or not, I have quite a bit. Its tough not to ask a targeted question and get insight from presently active members rather than investing the time in the broader search. I understand the need to keep repetative information to a minimum here.

I would help a lot - and I'd be willing to help to it - if an FAQ archive could be created with posts organized in there. Might be cumbersome though...

weiser, glad to know you are searching and reading... that's all I wanted to point out...sometimes people are unaware of the feature, unclear how to use, or whatever.... Since you've found it and use it, you're off and running :)

I'm not sure about that. I hope someone else will give a definitive answer. The overall flow rate is likely the limiting factor but if you are not actively using the 3pt hitch or loader I don't know why the full hydraulic capacity can't be utilized for a running hydraulic unit. I know that people with CUTs run landscape rakes and hydraulic post hole diggers. So I think it is going to entirely depend on the flow required by the device in question. Many skid steer attachments will likely require higher flow rates than a CUT can provide, but I'm sure there are plenty that will work on CUTs too.

Not that I know of.

I agree. I frequent a lot of bulletin boards and even moderate on a very active one and I find that even the best search features are so-so when it comes to answering the specific question that I have. And often times I'm asking a question because I want to discuss the issue, not just read about it. Timely input from currently active members cannot always be achieved via the search features.

The flow rate of even the best CUTs is generally well below that of a skid steer. You might be able to upgrade the flow rate by using a PTO pump and an independent reservoir. It would be an expensive solution but it wouldn't affect your tractor hydraulics if something went wrong.

Just an idea...

Most skids built today have plus or minus 16 gallons per minute flow that is dedicated to the attachments unless they have the double pump option and then they will be about double that.

The hydro's themselves have their own pumps so there is no loss when another control is operated while moving. There is actually two systems here where in a tractor there is often multiple pumps one working the hydraulics that operate controls of the tractor like the steering or they operate the hitch or remotes or any combination.

The skids that should be running a Harley should be a double pump as with any attachment that is continuous run. To run a grapple would not be a problem off a tractor loader hydraulic system would not be a problem.

I'd look for a dealer that might have a harley pro for rent that goes on the three point hitch and you'd still have the loader for clean-up with a rock fork bucket.
