I went with the L4240 precisely because that was the lowest model in the new GL lineup that offered the largest loader, the LA854.

Is it just my poor eyesight or is your loader mount missing about half the bolts at the bottom?

I just recently went and test drove a 3540 HST and I've got the fever. Waiting on a quote, trading in my L2800... :)

I struggled with the same thing a couple months ago. Kubota makes so many options its hard to decide. I went with the L3940 HST and so far very happy with the machine. I agree with everyone else buy the most you can afford. For me it was trying to decide if the extra 3.5 hp was worth the extra $. Sure I would like to have it, but needed to save so I could upgrade my implements etc.. I did struggle with DT vs. HST, and would buy the L4400 most likely if going with a DT model (most bang for the buck in that size). I had a L2550 before and yes I sometimes miss changing gears, however I do find myself using the HST for more things around the place because its so easy and convenient to use. I find myself not using the brake that much at all. I expect to use the brakes to help me steer some when mowing etc... Its still new to me and not sure which system (DT/HST) I prefer. Shopping for a new one is exciting. Have fun.

well my thoughts if you want to listen. I have had my L3240 for 3 months and I am thinking about trying to fit a L4240 into my budget. Don't get me wrong the thing is great, but I could do things faster and better with the bigger, heavier machine. If you got the L4400 you would lose 100lbs off of my machine and power is nothing if you can't put it to the ground. Now hydraulics, go grand L and you will be happier even if you don't know it. And as far as dt, I feel it is the only way to go. Good luck.

Hello to all,
This my first post and please forgive me if this topic has been discussed before.
I want a tractor to replace one that a relative has let me borrow many times.
It is a NH 1920 with a Woods FEL and boxblade.
Great tractor imho.
But I want my own.
At first I had my mind set on a L3240DT , this seemed to be comparable
to the 1920 New Holland.
But I am the type of person that always thinks he has to have the most
bang for the buck ,so to speak.
I noticed when you go to a L3940 the engine is a 4cyl vs. 3cyl in the L3240.
This is about a additional $2500 dollars if I am not mistaken.
But if I am going to spend that much money I notice the L4240 is only
 $1500 more than L3940.
And the L4240 will accept the LA854 FEL which local dealer priced at
$4200 vs $4000 for the LA724 FEL.
The L3940 and L4240 on the dealer lot were sitting side by side and I could only find one difference, which was the front axle.
L4240 has a kingpin style knuckle with mounting on bottom and top of knuckle, please excuse me if I am not using term.
L3940 has single point mount on bottom of knuckle.
Other differences I do not know other than size of piston.
These two tractors weigh about 400 to 500lbs more than the L3240.
I want a DT transmission so that rules out L3540 and L4740.
This tractor will outlast me and will be the last one I buy.
( am still using a 1976 WheelHorse 16hp garden tractor my Dad bought new)
I am 50 and have about 10 acres of land to maintain.
Gravel drives, roads down through woods to a bottom, lots of rocks to move around, etc
I will add a bushhog latter and at some point I would like to be able to plow and disc a 2 to 3 acre garden in a soft bottom lying land.
I humbly ask for your advice to someone who has very limited experince with tractors.
Thank You Very Much

Just alittle advice from experiences that I have had. About 5 yrs ago I purchased a L3400DT. I used it mainly to mow about 35 acres, plow my garden and do some odds and ends with the ft end loader I bought with the tractor. This little machine did it all with no problems. I also bought a 6 ft bushhog to mow with and experienced no problems. I was not, however mowing down small trees or anything like that. Well, a few yrs later I stopped by my Kubota dealer and made the mistake of visiting the lot with all the nice new tractor. Before you know it I had sold my L3400 and purchased a Grand L3940DT I sold my old tractor for about $2000 less than I paid for it. The L3940 has more bells and whistles and rides more comfortably but I only got about 4 more horsepower but it will do everything I need it to. I really liked the L3400, and being alittle smaller, could get around tight places better. With only 10 acres, this might be something to consider. It will more than adequately do what you have described you want to do and with the extra money you can go ahead and get that bushhog. No matter what model you decide on just make sure you get a loader (you can throw away your wheel barrow). I advertised in the local paper for a used 2 bottom plow and received lots of calls. Bought a used one for $25.

Hope this helps. Suggest once you make your decesion, buy it and stay away from the dealers new tractor lot for awhile.

Rat, Mentioned he would have to have...TnT ..on any of his tractors. I'm going crazy.. What is TnT ? Thanks Frank

Double Orange: TnT is hydraulic TOP link and hydraulic TILT. The hydraulic cylinders replace your manual screw top link and side adjuster link.
