L3400D diesel parting out
Newly rebuilt three cylinder diesel engine, many new parts, some mounted, some still in packaging.
Just ask and I’ll see if we got it!

Is there a back ground story to this tractor? Why is it getting parted out?

(more post like this one, will help give more people time to see your post... that and I'm interested to hear why...)

I only know parts of the story. An older man purchased the tractor after it had a fire. All the wiring harness is gone, fuel lines, and tank. He started the restoration, had the engine professionally rebuilt, cleaned and painted every part of the tractor, and purchased numerous new parts to put it back together. But before that happened he had a heart attack and passed away. A relative of mine purchased the tractor from his widow with the intention of finishing the restoration. But after inventorying what we had and what we needed to finish the job, about $9500, here we are, parting it out…

9500 might get you first place in the tractor show. I imagine I could get it usable for far less than half of that. Parting out is a severely losing proposition. If someone buys the two back tires, and nobody buys much else, you'll have to scrap it because you can't move it around. Just fix it without high dollar dealer parts. Really, if it seems too much to fix it, then you gave too much for it.

Probably true, thought $2500 would be a good investment. Engine should bring at least that…

Seems like a waste to part it out. Looks like with a radiator, battery, fuel tank and some cowling you'd have a good tractor. You didn't say just what other parts the former owner had accumulated- I suppose how much, or how little, would determine the wisdom of finishing the job.

The wiring harness is over $1,000.

Much of that would be for lighting, gauge cluster. I wonder if you could just jury rig your own wiring? A schematic and basic tools should do it, if you've got some time...
