Interesting...

anybody know off hand which models have this meter? My B7800 for instance :D?

You should be able to tell, operate the tractor for one hour below the rated PTO speed, and compare to the actual clock time. That's how I figured out the two did not match. (then I read a thread on TBN). This is my first tractor with an hour meter, I had my 8N for 18 years but with no hour meter I changed oil etc. once a year.

Thanks again for all of your knowledge on this subject. I did search the forum but must have missed where this came up in the past. Sorry.

I think after listening to some excellent explanations that I will just service as per Kubota on my original hour meter. I may not even add the electic now.

Really interesting about an airplane having three hour meters. I had no idea.

I think that there are others who have no idea that this is how these hour meters work. Maybe for the best. Sometimes I can over anaylize things and thought that I was really on to something. The tractor is an excellent machine "after 3 pt. valve replaced" and I intend on keepeing it for many years.

Thank you all again. Brian

Both my Ford 8N and my L4400 have the RPM modulated hour meter; the Ford is strictly mechanical, which they call the proofmeter. Not sure whether the Kubota is electrical or mechanical, since the diesel can't count ignition pulses, maybe it's counting injector pulses.

I'm not aware of Kubota using Electronic fuel injection yet. My Kubota L3400 has mechanical fuel injection and the tach drives off a cable that connects to the front of the injection pump housing.

John Deere is switching some of their tractors to electronic injection and those probably have an electronic tach that reads RPM/Hours.

Electronic injection will eventually be the rule due to the EPA requirements but I prefer the rock solid reliability of the mechanical units. No connectors or circuit boards to corrode, vibrate loose, and go intermittant. Although, that stuff is getting much better than it used to be. I still like the dual mags on the plane engines too.

I had no clue...of course as I stated in my first post on this site, I don't know shiznit about tractors. Interesting and I will make a note of it. THANKS for asking the question, and who cares if it was posted before, don't apologize! Not everyone has time to read every post. Thanks again,
