L3301 new starter price

Checked out the price for a new starter for 13301 in case I needed one. About $900 with tax and shipping.
This seems crazy!

In case you need one? Relax, it's a Kubota.

Why would you think you might need a starter? Is your tractor having starting problems? If not, worry about what a starter will cost twenty or thirty years from now.

I had some problems with the tractor not starting. Still not positive what caused it, but I looked into
replacing the starter as it was a possible suspect

The starter motor itself is pretty far down the list of likely culprits. There are several threads about starting problems where you hear clicking but the motor does not turn, etc. If, in the unlikely event you need a starter, check with one of the big dismantling houses like Wengers of Myerstown.

Starter and alternators are usually pretty easy to rebuild, either DIY or (local?) shop specializing on those.

I would agree that the starter is probably fine. I just checked it out as a number of heavy equipment mechanics I talked too suspected that. I was just shocked that it was so expensive for a small starter turning a 33HP diesel

True. We have a Mennonite shop here in Southern MD that specializes in that sort of work. I would expect that most areas of the country have shops like that though you might have to drive a few miles. But then so far I doubt that you need anything done to your starter.

You can pay that much if you are silly enough to buy one from Kubota. They are readily available in the aftermarket for a fraction of that price.
