Looking for opinions on the L3240 vs. the L4400. I have 160 acres hunting land and need a tractor. Using it for food plots, maintaining trails, box blade for driveway, loader and grapple for brus and minor dirt work.

I have looked at both tractors and can't decide which way to go.

Thanks

L4400 would allow you to use a bigger mower because of the HP both are great tractors the 3240 is a Grand L tractor with more features and the L4400 is a simpler tractor without all of the electronics and such.

Have you compared the features you gain with the 3240 compared to the 4400? Are you comparing these two models because of a budget and their priced similar? Do you feel the features on the 3240 are worth the hp your giving up to the 4400?

Personally, if its a tractor your only going to use once or twice a month then go with the L4400. The extra hp will help you get the jobs done faster. Now if its a tractor your going to be using multiple times a week or even once a week then the added features on the 3240 may be worth while.

Your brief description of what you will use it for doesn't tip the scale in favor of either unit... they both should have your work requirements covered pretty well. The L4400 has quite a bit more hp, an advantage if you were doing lots of pto work such as brush mowing. The L3240 has more features and is a really nice package. It boils down to your preference. Can't lose either way.

The L-4400 would certainly work circles around the 3240 because of the horsepower and would be a better buy for putting into the woods situation.

The loader is a little better on the L3240.

The L514 is not a better loader than the L703 that is on the L4400 IMO.

But if you step up to the L724 loader (and I think you have to jump to the L3540 to get it) then THAT is a better loader than then L4400.

But in order to answer the question, we need to know what you are going to do with the tractor? If you plan on using the PTO a lot (like mowing, chipper, tiller, bushhog, etc) then the added power of the L4400 would me MUCH better IMO.

If it is all ground work, pulling logs, etc, then they both weigh similar and you arent going to notice much difference.

If you plan on using the loader a lot, and like the features of the GrandL, then My best advice is to look at a L3540 or L3940 with the LA723 loader:thumbsup:

You can get the LA724 loader on the 3240 which will compete with the loader on the L4400, but it is not a fair comparison because of the hp. If HP is what you are after then get he 4400. If the machine itself is a big deal go for the GL:thumbsup:

Or just jump to the 4240/4540 if he likes the features if the GL but wants the HP of the L4400. But ofcourse that will add a few bills$$$ to the pricetag.

Or that too and then you can get the LA854 loader with even more grunt:D:thumbsup:

Both machines will work fine. The l4400 will get most jobs done quicker but the 3240 with the hst+ will offer a nicer user experience IMO. I think it really comes down to the type of person you are, do you like options like power windows and delay wipers in your vehicles or do you find them useless things added on to drive the price up?

i was referring to the LA724 FEL and it is only marginal better than the LA703 by having better rollback angle and dump angle.

That you for the comments. We intend on using it for brushing trails, tilling food plots, general brush clean up and blading the driveway. Also some minor dirt work and maybe some mowing. Am I right in understanding that a mid point pot can not be put on the L4400? This would exclude the possible use of a belly mower, correct?

Oops, need to proof read. Meant to say thank you and mid point pto.

Maybe you should look into a L4240. Yes, that means more money, but you get the more power and better comfort, but hey we can't get everything we want can we?

As far as I know only the Grand L line of L tractors can get a mid PTO.

You really need to narrow down what you are going to use it for now and in the future. I read on one of these posts to buy right the first time so you don't have to buy again. It seems to be a matter of deciding what you need or may need in the future and what you want to spend. The spending part seems endless.
