Looking at getting a tiller for a L3130 and was wondering if a 72" tiller is to big for the tractor as far as the pto HP is concerned or will it work?

Thanks

I have a 48' on my L3130. Wish I had a 60" to cover the tractor tracks. That is as big as I would go with all the rocks around here. Maybe someone else will help you more.

5 ft would be a good match for that tractor. I think if your soil is not too tight, you should be able to make it ok with a 6 ft. We have the Hawkline by Behlen 700 lb Geardrive 5 ft for $1595 + about $125 shipping to a commercial business in WV. or picked up at the truck terminal and also the 800 lb 6 ft for $1695 + same shipping. We also stock the Tarter Geardrive, Phoenix and First Choice Brands gear and chain drive Ken Sweet

I run the 5' behind my 3130 with no issues. I have my rear tires set as wide as possible and it lacks a few inches cutting the tire tracks out. However this has not been a problem. I would have purchased the 6' but when I bought I saved several hundered dollars buying the 5' that they had left over from the previous year and there was a price increase that year. A lot depends on your soil type but there is enough power for the 6'.

Tillers need surprisingly little power, especially if the soil has been worked before. I run a 48" at only 1/4 throttle with my BX. No power issues whatsoever. Covering your wheel tracks should your primary concern followed by the area you need to turn over. If it is a large area and you want to get the job done quickly, that's when you need more HP---to move at a faster forward pace. Otherwise, take it slow and your machine will handle a 72" just fine. Moving slower will also give you a better result no matter what size tiller you use. Only you can judge whether the extra width is worth the money for your needs.

I ran a 62 inch.Bush-Hog brand with my L3130 HST with no problem in our rocky NE.Use the same on my current tractor.Hint..if real rocky run with the discharge flap wide open.
