Hello everyone,

I have 30 hours on my L3010 HST and the other day it started whining. The sound is coming from right underneath the floorboard so I am assuming that it is the HST. It is most noticable at 1500-1800rpm. Slower than that there is no sound and faster than that the engine noise is too load for me to hear any whining. When I push in the clutch the sound goes away. It doesn't whine all the time but it has now happened a couple times. What is the likely cause? Is it a problem? Should I not use the tractor until the dealer looks at it or should I just have them look at it at the 50 hour service which will probably be sometime in May?

Thanks for your help.

Kevin,
Hydros whine. Is it an extreme noise as compared to what it was, or maybee something you just have'nt noticed before? If you're not sure have the dealer take a look at it.

I talked to the mechanic today and he said to just keep an eye on it for now and give him a call if I notice any drop in hydraulic power. I'm sure it is a new sound...it is very faint but it is there. I'll let you know how I make out.

Give him a call if you notice a drop in hydraulic power? By then the problem should be easy to find.

Kubmech,

Will using synthetic Tractor Hydraulic fluid (amsoil and the rest) make a hydro less noisy? This is not ment to start up the Dino Vs Techno oil debate. I am nearing my 50 hour service and I want to know if I can get quiter HST operation.

Thanks!

John,
I personally have limited experience with synthetic oils, I have always used what the factory recommends, even in my personal stuff and never had a problem. I believe in the "if it aint broke........................" Most of what I know about the synthetics I get from other peoples' experience or opinions. Seems most have good luck using synthetics. As far as quieting the hydro I can't imagine it would be very noticeable if at all, that fluid still has to squeeze past those small clearances which can't help but make noise. But hey, ya never know.......

John,

Depends on outside ambient temperature...

Less than 40 degrees{winter time?}... absolutely./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Above 40 degrees... hardly noticeable. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

John, Thanks for the update. Since it is below 40 here in Wisconsin for about 15 months a year, I probably will go with a synthetic fluid. Actually, today was nice for a change. Started out in the 30's and ended up in the 60's.

No "whine" but a lot noise from using the FEL and the box blade to dig out a duck pond.

The only time I have ever objected to the HST noise was traveling on the road with the tractor in high range.

My 3010 HST makes a whirlling sound in the back end when driving fast down the road. It has done so since
Hour 1. I have no loss in power but it does lug heavily when trying to start up in High range on the HST.
I have FEL and filled tires so the extra weight might cause the lugging of the engine in High.
