I have been looking at new NH and Kubota. After looking and at both, I have about decided on the Kubota. Prices are :
L3000- $9800
L3130- $10,800
There is probably still some negotiation room in those prices. Both tractors are 2WD gear tractors. My question is what are the main differences in the two both functionally and cosmetically. I saw a L3130D tractor last night. Is the L3130F just like it only 2WD?

Too many tractors not enough brains.

I would assume so since in the Kubota brochure it is listed right along side the L3130 DTand weighs only 100lbs less. I have not seen a 2WD Kubota in a long time. In fact, it would definitely be a special order item where I live. Rat...

Jason, you know better than anyone what your needs are but I sure would consider the 4x4 model. Compact tractors are light enough that their abilities with out 4x4 can not be compared with 2 wheel ag tractors in the same horsepower range. Besides the difference in ability I believe that if you ever wanted to trade or sell that the value difference would be considerable. Might be worth talking to your dealer and see how he would treat a 2 wd trade compared to the same model with 4x4.

The L3000F (2WD) is a basic non-synchronized trans, gear driven, dual clutch with power steering model. The L3130F (2WD) and the L3130DT (4WD) are alike except for the 4WD, fully synchronized trans, hydraulic independent PTO, power steering, tilt wheel, lots of operator features models.

Thanks Lewis. I feel like I can buy the 2WD3130 for 10K or the 3000 for 9K. I would say the 3130 is worth the extra money for shuttle shift, flat platform, and other creature comforts. One last question though. One of my friends is now trying to convince me to keep my old tractor for bushhogging and disc work and buy a kubota zero turn more for mowing my 7-8acre yard. What do you think? I thought I was confused on upgrading my tractor and now this. I am completely confused. Not sure that the zero turn mower would handle my terrain. I think the shuttle shift will already save me mowing time.

Thanks
Jason

So why not sell the other tractor, get a L3130 with 4WD in the transmission you like and do your mowing and discing or whatever else you want down the road with it. A 72" finish mower for the 3130 will cost less then a ZTR even though the ZTR are extremely manuverable, with 7 plus acres, that may not be as much of an issue. The L3130 HST I tried was very nice, smooth and quiet. Rat...

Hi Jason,

I agree with Mark...

Hey... sell your old tractor to your Buddy... since he likes it... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You need to spend some time on a MFWD unit and run it through it's paces... buying a 2-wd tractor today... is like buying a car WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING & POWER WINDOWS... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

In all seriousness, for a few thousand more, I'd consider 4-wd (MFWD)... to get all that extra grunt needed during your time of ownership the plain 2-wd unit just can't match...

...and someday, when you consider a trade or sale... YOU WILL GET EVERY DOLLAR BACK that you paid for the 4-wd difference...! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

(it's as good as money in the bank!)/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know that everyone is really promoting the 4WD but I have owned a 2WD tractor forever and never had any problems whatsoever. If I bought the 4WD I would never use it for mowing, bushhogging, or discing. I sometimes wonder if CUT companies have done with 4WD tractors what DeBeers did with diamonds (Program us to think you have to have one and that they are priceless.) DeBeers has convinced the whole world to spend thousands on diamonds and there is such a large supply of diamonds that they are actually worthless. DeBeers just controls the supply. If you try to sell a preowned diamond they are cheap. DeBeers has marketed that "diamonds are forever". This keeps people from selling them and finding out what they are really worth.

fellow golfer,

Only you can know your uses for your tractor, but should you ever want / need a loader or want to sale your tractor. 4wd will more than be worth the extra initial cost. I have new L3430 - really happy with purchase. We have very little to no snow in my area and limited hills, but 4wd is so convenient to prevent wheel spin when backing with loader empty, much less when bucket is full. Even when pulling a box scrape it makes tractor much easier to use. Good luck with your purchase.

I happen to own both a 2WD and a 4WD. The 2WD is an International that weighs close to twice as much as my Kubota. The Kubota has about 12 HP less, when using my 72" box blade, the International just does not have the traction to do much with it once it starts to cut. The Kubota eventually either breaks traction or runs out of power, but not until the box is buried. With the rippers down, the International won't get 3 feet. The Kubota with a loader bucket full of dirt in 4WD will pull it with an occasional lift on the 3 pt hitch when the going is really tough. The advantage of 4WD for loader work is enourmous, but I believe your not interested in a loader at this time. Anyway, I personnally would not desire to have a tractor with 2WD, but then I live on hills and use it year around. As soon as I get the International ready to sell and can get an acceptable price, its sold. There are vineyards in our area that do nothing but pull carts or trailers and buy exclusively 2WD. If your needs really don't call for heavy pulling or a loader and you really don't want to pay for the 4WD, then your decision for 2WD is probably warranted.

Hi Jason,

Well… first things first… what kind/model is your current 2-wd tractor?

What prevents you from using your present tractor?

Why do you need another 2-wd tractor that you can’t do with your first 2-wd?

Over the years, I’ve owned nothing but 2-wd tractors and they did everything I asked from them… now I own a MFWD tractor and can go places on our property… I don’t believe has seen “humans” in 50+ years… since it can go more places, I ask more from it that I never considered with my 2-wd units. Because of the MFWD, I find new things to do that I wouldn’t think of doing with my 2-wd’s. The last couple years, the prices have plummeted on older 2-wd units… however the older 4-wd units command Top Dollar!

But I have to agree, not everyone needs a MFWD, nor does everyone need a Front End Loader… but once you do own them… I promise, you will find unlimited ways to put those new found tools to work…! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ive got a L3000dt and have been very happy with it. for an economy tractor it is great.
i had to get something in my budget plus i would rather have more implements than a bigger payment.

Either will be great but like many others have said get the 4wd. i wouldnt have one without it now. even mowing i have used it really wet areas that 2wd won't go into without getting stuck it will.
i used to drive a ford 3600 2wd. it's like 45 hp . well this little economy tractor will go places it would only dream about. in 4wd i think they said it's like adding 10 hp. i believe it!

i would highly recommend 4wd. and a FEL ! worth the extra.

I had been using 2 wd ford tractor, 45 hp for years....Just bought 4 wd Kubota 3130HST with fel, I would never go back to 2 wd, When I get in spot where rear wheels spin, slide lever into 4wd, It just doesn't spin.....I recently started grading my ditches,..hehehe, They are full of water & mud!!! The Bota handles it well!! BTW, that allows me a chance to use that Power Washer I've had in storage for ten years!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Anyway, If you have it, You will use it!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
