Oil & Fuel L2900 Hydro Filter Change

The hydro filter on my L2900 reached a 200 hr interval so I purchased a new filter at my Kubota dealer for $33.84 and proceeded to change it. The manual said a small amount of fluid will need to be replaced. When I removed the old filter, fluid kept draining. I quickly screwed the new filter on, but 2 gallons of fluid drained and more would have if I didn't screw the new filter on. Did I miss a step or a way to prevent this draining. I ended up adding another $40. worth of new super UDT because I didn't want to put back the drained oil.

No you did fine. The filter on the 2900 is right at the suction point of the hydraulic pump, and will continue to drain the tank without the filter on. Just need to be quick. Have done lots of those.

A trick I've seen on tbn is to use a vacuum in your fill hole. That prevents the drain out and won't suck fluid in your vacuum either. You still lose some but ounces instead of gallons.

Learned it here on TBN also. Another thing I've done is ride up on planks an leave tractor leaning on opposite side of filter and taken it off quickly to avoid much fluid loss.
