found out the hard way the other day that the manual is incorrect on the oil capacity. now I am looking for a replacement engine can anyone tell me what model/size options I have for the exchange?

There will be an engine number on the valve cover. A complete engine is going to cost some $$$ you might look at getting that one ebuilt. Did it run and lockup??

no I did hear it go and shut down. think a rod went thru the bottom cause the oil drained right out.

Regardless what a manual would state as the oil capacity ... do you not use the dip stick to verify the correct oil level? KennyV

I underfilled it and it did read on the dipstick. pulling it right now but still unable to locate any numbers on the valve cover or anywhere else?

I found a number on the fromt of the motor on the pully D1403 is there any other size motor that will interchange with it?

I'm confused, how much did you underfill it? I can't imagine underfilling it a quart or two would ruin the motor. If it was a 14 quart system and you put in four quarts, I could see blowing the motor. How many did it hold and how many did you put in? Not trying to beat a dead horse, just trying to learn.

As far as engine swap, check with Kubota. I would think they could help. It could be a larger or smaller engine would bolt in. I know from working on cars, and I assume tractors are similar, that it is not just how the engine bolts in and mounts but how accesiories mount, how the engine mounts to the transmission, where the radiator hoses are etc. I don't know how much Kubota changed this kind of stuff over the years, so it could be you have a wide open choice of different year engines or it could be you are limited.

Sorry for the miss information guys. Talking to my employees the problem seems to be there was too much oil. Seems as though a miss communication between 2 of the guys is that they both added the oil ending up with at least 11-12 quarts!

I can see that happening. If you got way to much oil in, and then it got up in the top of the pistons, wham. Thats one problem with diesels, they are such high compression that there isn't any room for fluid on top of the pistons.

Sorry I was misinformed my employees both addedd oil after an oil change so it was my fault
