Kubota L2501
I have what I believe to be a '88 Kubota L2850. It runs great, has a brand new battery. I just bought it and had the battery go dead after a week or so. No big deal I thought, I figured maybe the guy I bought it from didn't charge it fully after installing the new battery. I tightened both terminals and charged the battery and it has been fine for a couple of weeks. Well yesterday I had it in the woods and went to shut it off and it didn't shut off. I knew the reason right away, dead battery won't activate the kill solenoid.
Anywho after all that, anyone know where or what to look for? It appears to have a new belt and the alternator looks decent. I did check the fuses, they seem fine. What is the slow burning fuse by the starter? Could that have anything to do with it?
Thanks.

ETA: I'm looking at the wiring schematic ad I don't see where the alternator is connected to the battery?
Anyone take a look and see what I'm missing?

Often it is the starter switch that goes bad on these tractors. You have to trace the wiring
and make sure the alternator is getting a 12V signal with the switch ON.

OK, thanks I will check that tomorrow as well as check the alternator. It was raining all day today so nothing got done outdoors. I have the shop tied up with the winch so the tractor had to go..lol

So I had a dead battery today again :( I never did get around to checking anything. I did test the power at the alternator with it running after a brief charge and I only had about 12.5 v at the alternator, one probe on the case of the alt and the red probe on the large post on the back of the alt.
As I understand it I now have to check the switch wiring. Which wire should I be checking to see if it has 12v ? The other wire on the alternator? And that is with the switch on and not running?
Thanks,
Dave

OK, just went back out and checked the plug on the alternator, it has three wires, one is black a little heavier than the other two, both white with different color stripes on them. With the key off I had nothing on all three wires in the plug, with the key on I had nothing on the two white ones and 10.56 volts on the black one.
Is this an ignition switch problem? Battery was still on 2 amp trickle charge and it's mostly charged, battery is pretty new.
Thanks again,
Dave

Your link didn't work for me to look at the wiring diagram.
does your alternator have two or 3 wires going to it?
With the key on, engine off,
Your main heavy lead should have the same voltage as the battery,
one other lead should have the same or almost the same voltage.

Is there anything in particular I should look at in the ignition switch or just go ahead and replace it? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving

Before you replace anything check the engine ground wire is clean and tight & if the voltage reading doesn't go up at the battery with the engine running you should consider having the alternator tested
