L2800 rear hyd. lift vavle replaced by Kubota

I am not sure if this topic has been discussed lately on here, but I recently (finally!) had the rear hydraulic lift valve replaced with a higher quality valve for smoother operation.
The original (2004 model L2800) valve caused considerable shuddering upon lifting and didn't allow for smooth/concise operation. It's so much better now, and I'm glad that this site helped me find out about the possibility for replacement.

If anyone else has problems with a 'jerky' lifting 3 pt hitch on this or comparable models, ask your dealer about a possible Kubota-backed replacement.

There was no charge for the valve or the labor.

As a side note, the 50-hour service was also performed by my local dealer and he did not change out the UDT fluid.
He said around 200 hours would even be okay unless I just wanted to go 'by the book'. Small-town dealer with repeat- business in mind. The fluid looks great, I had him show me.

I'm a newbie at this tractor stuff, but I've heard from more than one person that the 50 hour fluid change was extremely important. The skeptic in me would say that its a gimmick to get you back in to spend more money. But, the conventional thinking behind it makes sense as well. The new gears have got to 'mesh' etc and during that early break-in period there is bound to be more metal floating around in there than at most any other time. And that fluid is shared by the hydraulic system. But again, as a newb I can't really substantiate that.

Also, in terms of examining the fluid, in a manual truck tranny the drain plug often has a magnet on it and you can see the metal collected there. But if he just dipped something in the filler hole or got some from a hydraulic hook-up then you wouldn't see the metal because 1) its been through a filter and 2) it isn't coming from the bottom of the tranny case where gravity will carry it when the tractor isn't moving.

Am I way off base on this?

No, you're not way off base at all. I just heard what the guy was trying to tell me...these tractors are made well, and fit well together. There are considerations for each person to make regarding how specific or 'by the book' they want to take the Kubota/dealer recommendations. I took it to mean that sure they could change the fluid and filters, but simply changing the filters would clean enough of the filtrate out to let the tractor continue to operate at maximun efficiency.

I don't think that 50 hours is really that much time, and unless you've run the machine like a madman (and I'm not inferring you have nor did I) you probably aren't going to have considerable wear and breakdown beyond the initial 'dust' created from the initial wear of new parts against new parts.
After the initial break-in, there really shouldn't be that much wear. He was saying that the 'initial' break-in could be upwards of 200 hours, and not so early at the 50 hour mark.

You may just be spending extra money on fluids/filters, which for Kubota makes perfect sense.

The guy could've been getting a considerable amount more money from me, but since I asked, he knew I wasn't a walkover customer and treated me with some decency.
I'll go back again.
As a matter of fact, I'm buying a FEL from them for a little more money than I could get the same 'in town' because of his honesty.
You can usually tell when a salesman or dealer tech is pulling your leg a little. Talk to them a while and they will see your concern over the details, one way or another.

You might also want to get the update for the pto overrunning clutch noise. It is a service bulletin. I had mine done but still have yet put on an attachment that uses the pto. Glad you have a helpfull dealer. As much as I hate to I will probably do all the recommended fluids at 50hrs. Brian
