I had a flat tire tonight will working on my tractor and it happened in a turn and the one side of the tire came off the rim. I used the FEL to raise the front off the ground and removed the lug nuts. I commenced to pull the wheel off...no such luck! Is there a trick to getting it off or am I just too weak? Any help on this one would be appreciated. Thanks!

It may be stuck by paint and tight fit to the axle mount. Try tapping it with a hand sledge and it should break free. I had the same problem with removing the wheel from m 2900.

Put a couple lug nuts on, loose, just half way..
Now set down across from the wheel & give the tire a good strong kick with both feet... it will come off the centering part of the hub... and the loosely attached lug nuts will catch it for you.... KennyV

The only thing I'll add is a suggestion to use a jackstand under the tractor's frame once the loader has the tire off the ground.

Thanks all...I will give these methods a try tomorrow. I was out in the field right at dark when it happened and was trying to work on it by the headlights of my truck. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to get the tire edge back on the inside of the rim? I am new to this and don't want to damage the tire trying to get it back on or should I just take it to a service station? I have plugged tires before so I should be able to plug it...but haven't put a tire on a rim other than a bike tire.

Thanks Again!

You should be able to do a variation of the tricks here to get it off. Put bolts/nuts back on hand tight at best (you want them close but still a little slop). Lower the front end keeping the FEL just above the ground (in case) and turn your wheels back and forth. Something like that should pop it free. Other wise sledgehammer and blocks of wood being careful not to damage the bead or mounting surfaces.

You might be able to get it back on but it is tough and if the rim has got dirt on it, that will complicate getting a seal. If you are just talking about seating the bead, then put a ratchet strap around the circumference of the tire and squeeze it down. You compress the tread and it pushes the bead into place. Then start airing up and carefully release the strap.

I had a similar problem and ended up putting tubes in my fronts so it didn't keep happening due to heavy FEL work. No problems since.

I am talking about getting the bead back on the inside of the rim. Since the tire went flat on the turn, it worked its way to the outside of the rim. Sounds like maybe a job for the tire shop?

Thanks for the tip on getting the wheel off.

they do go back on like a bike tire ..just bigger.

keep as much of the bead in the low part of the rim as possible as you work the bead over the rim. do not force as it is easy to bend the rim if you have a bar with a lot of leverage.

tire tools are curved and have a flat head to pry the bead back on the rim. it is possible to do without those tools. lubricate the bead helps get it over the rim ...soapy water works or run bar soap across the rim and tire bead.

some tires go on easier then others ...

Since it is just a 16" tire, take it to ANY of your locak tire shops and have them re-moint it. Because getting the bead back on is a PITA and only half the battle. Once it is on, you have to get it to take air ad seat the bead. Which is another PITA with just a small compressor.

Tire shops around me only charge $10-$12.50 per tire for a tire swap and re-balance on a car. Since no balance is required, and jsut one bead, it may be even cheaper than that. And even for $10, it just isnt worth screwing with for hours tryint to do it yourself and chancing screwing something up.

And also, a tire shop, if you ask, will probabally take the tire off and clean the bead and make sure their isnt any dirt around it that will cause a slow leak.

I have broke down and re-mounted tires before with the tire spoons. PArtly because I am cheap. Everytime I am about 1 hour into the job and fed up, I always ask myself why I didnt just pay the $10.

Thanks to all...I was able to get the wheel off with a small sledge hammer and a block. I went ahead and took it to a tire shop and they cleaned the wheel and tire and used some sealer on the bead. $10 dollars and about 15 minutes. Not bad.

Thansk Again!
