L2550, no start without help, but will run

I am thinking some start fuel boost feature on the pump not working. Any idea on where to look?

To be more specific; it starts with ether, but just cranking over without, it doesn't even smoke. Once started it will run on its own.
This is a sudden onset problem.
Is there an automatic enrichment or something?

I have 5600 hours on my 2550 and never experienced this. Is the compression good and is it cranking fast enough to build heat?

Dug into it a little more

The fuel cutoff wasn't returning fully. Think I'll order a new solenoid and a new plastic lever the solenoid was dead a couple of years. Using the fuel cutoff knob seams to have worn the plastic lever.

Why do you think it ran after the use of ether but on its own no go?
