L2500 price check

Looking at a 97' l2500 as a partial trade for my 2010 Mahindra 4530. Don't know much about this model. Reviews seem to be good. It's a 1 owner 4wd/loader with 600hrs in good condition. Can it handle a 6' brush hog? He asked me what I thought a fair trade was but I'm not sure what those sell for. I'm asking 15k on my tractor, any input would be much appreciated. Thanks

Just wondering - but do you really want to trade into a tractor like that? The guy would be selling because he believes it's time for an upgrade... Just my opinion, but I guess if your looking to get some money out of your tractor and move into something smaller, then it could work.

The purpose for selling my tractor is to move into something smaller. Prolly 80% of the work I do is with a brush hog off of a trailer and it's just to heavy to lug all over creation. This isn't what I'm looking for but figured it was worth a look.

My plan is to sell mine and buy a new 3616 but I've found a nice john Deere 350b track loader i'd also like to have. So we will see. Just want to make sure the l2500 is a good tractor. It would be nice if it can handle a 6' brush hog.

Just my $.02, but I wouldn't trade for anything unless it magically was exactly what I wanted. It would be more work to realize it's not what you need/want and try and sell it again. I always either state no trades or say I'll only trade for ____ when I sell, though I usually find it easier to sell and then buy exactly what I want.

I do think it would handle a light duty 6' brush hog, at 22.5HP (from tractor data) I don't see it doing much of anything over 1". If you really want an older tractor to brush hog, I'd say to get a 60s - 80s era 60 - 80HP range tractor. That will take down 4" saplings.

The problem with the older 80hp tractor is it's as heavy as mine and that's what I'm trying to get away from. I'm not gonna jump on anything just yet.

I see what your saying, I can't tell you about the L2500, but I know that my 3120 specs out slightly better than it, couple HP on it. I have a light duty brush hog for field use, just chopping down the weeds in the pastures, rated for 1" saplings, I wouldn't use my 3120 to run it. I think it barely meets the minimum requirements, like exactly the requirements, but I use the 5410 - 85HP, 65PTO.

Your Mahindra is a heavy built tractor as it is, I'd look into something like a Deere 3720 size. It has more HP than your 4530, but base weight is about 2000lb's less. I mention the Deere just because it's what I know best, but if you really want to go light, Kubota is known to have the lightest tractors, while not always considered a good thing, it seems it may in your case.

Thanks for your input. I haven't really considered used so I haven't looked at many. A new Mahindra 3616 is my plan. But who knows I'd like to have a way to get that track loader and a tractor so I might go used.

That 3616 looks good from just looking at the specs. It is much lighter than what you got. Much more tractor than the L2500 as well.

Not familiar with that track loader, but if it has hi flow hydraulics you could get a brush hog for it....

I own a 97 L2500 4WD w/loader and run a 6' bush hog on it and as for power it handles it fine. The biggest issue with handling it is the fact that it is not a live PTO but if you keep the RPM's up I haven't found it to be much of an issue. Usually I can run it in Gear 7 but if the grass/brush is really heavy and thick than I usually have to drop it into 6.

I run a multitude of implements on my tractor and 6' bush hog probably is the one that works the tractor the hardest but the tractor is fully capable of handling it. The lift capacity of the loader I would say is probably on the upper side of capabilities for tractors of it's size.

It's a workhorse of a tractor but with old school technology. It's not a synchronized transmission so if you have to grab another gear you have to stop and it's not a live PTO but the thing is built like a tank. I have almost 800 hours on mine and have not ever had one single mechanical issue.

It will fit on a 16' tandem axle landscape trailer with the bushhog attached if you remove the gates but if you are doing a ton of mowing you might be better off going with a larger tractor with hydrostat (hydros generally take about 5 hp away from the PTO compared to gear) and a live PTO.

As for my opinion of the L2500 it lacks a lot of luxuries that many tractors today have but if your looking for a tough smaller tractor this is it.

also have a L2500====real workhorse with front bucket-0 mechanical prob other then the usual hyd hose failing once in awhile- it has 438 hrs on it and im the second owner- has gear shift but thats no prob for me------love this little tractor-and i've prob used about all the green, red, orange in my 73 years-just make sure its rated to do what you want it to.
