I have a 1985 L2250DT with a three cylinder diesel, the valves are getting a bit noisy, and I'm doing the 800 hr service. I don't have the service manual, what I need are the valve specs so I can adjust them.

Also, the power steering is getting sticky and I'm supposed to top up the ps fluid but I don't know where this goes. Neither of these items are in the operators manual...

Thanks!
Rich

I will look at my shop manual for my L2550DT that is about 1984/85. I believe the power steering uses the hydraulic fluid of the transmission etc.

WSM pages attached. The ps pump gets oil directly from the trans. - no separate reservoir. Several possible causes for sticky steering. Maybe some one has a link to WSM 60329-0 - my scanner is s-l-o-w.

One year later... So this is embarrassing! I cant find the flywheel viewing port for the TDC mark. I'm guessing it is hidden behind the loader frame, like the 2-stage clutch adjustment. Anyone know?

Thanks - I'm more of a fossil than an expert. When I was fixing up a L3250 an old-but-readable WSM 60329-0 came on eBay covering L2250, L2550, L2850 and L3250.

It appears to be on the right side of the bell housing about the 3 o'clock position.

I guess when I adjusted the valves on my 2550 I just rotated it until the opposite valve for the same cylinder was wide open and assumed the other would be closed.

Even if you do not use the timing mark but focus on finding top dead center buy watching the valves, you can adjust several valves at the same time. It should only take one turn of the engine to adjust the remaining valves which are marked with a clear circle on the attached page.

Doing one valve with the other is open is not the best way as the cam profile is not a perfect circle with a bump on it.
