I am considering these two machines, both used, for general landscaping, mowing and snow removal on 13 acres. I have a 900' driveway, and the terrain is rolling hills with some relatively steep slopes, but most of it is old hay fields and pasture, so there aren't any rough obstacles to deal with. My question is with regard to differences between these two units - one has a little more hp (the B7800 is 30, while the L2050 is 26), but they both have similar features and both have fels, the B7800 has a mmm. The B7800 is newer (2003) but has 400+ hours, the L2050 is a 1990, but shows only 578 hrs. Is there any major difference that I could expect to see between these two in performing normal landscaping tasks? The L2050 is several thousand $$ cheaper....Thanks for your input!.....

I believe all the B7800s have HST (if not someone please correct me), what type of transmission does the L2050 have? Neither one has an excessive amount of hours, what about visible condition? What do they have for tires? I would suspect ag tires wouldn't work well for landscaping and mowing and the turf tires might not work well on your hills so if you have to change tires you might want to budget that into your decision.

For me the HST is a big plus but you sacrfice a little PTO HP. If you've never driven one it's kind of like an automatic vs. a standard. If you think you might want to brush hog your field then the extra HP would be handy. If you haven't try each one out, one might feel nicer than the other.

They both have ag tires, and the 2050 has a manual transmission, which I don't mind. I know the HST is going to be a lot easier, especially for anything with the loader, though, so I'm leaning that way right now.
I'd prefer to have more traction, especially for clearing snow, and I'm not concerned about marking up the lawn too much - it's a matter of being careful and not mowing when too wet.
Both of these machines look pretty good as far as wear and tear goes, and with similar work capacities, it's difficult to make a clear case for either one right now. Thanks, CrazyAl, I appreciate your thoughts....

What happens to the mower when you step on the clutch to shift a gear with the 2050?

I have no experience with the L2050, but I can say that I love my B7800. I have a FEL, MMM, 5' RB and 5' rear snowblower. The HST makes using the snowblower much easier - I had a manual Yanmar before - so I would say that just for this feature the B7800 is the better machine. The MMM is terrific and easy to maintain and it does a great job on our athletic field. For clearing snow and maintaining a mile (more in the summer) of dirt road it is tops.

L2050?
Are you sure it is not a L2250? What year is it? A L2250 has a two stage clutch, push it half way for the travel clutch all the way for the pto.
The 2250 is a great basic tractor, very rugged. It really is a mini utility tractor. 26.5 engine hp, 22 at the pto. It is also VERY good in regards to fuel consumption.
It is not HST, if that is what you looking for buy the B7800.
Good Luck
Dave

There is no mower on the L2050, so I can't answer that question regarding the clutch, and it definitely is a L2050 - at least that is what the decal clearly says on the engine cowling. It was made in 1990 according to the seller.
Thanks to all for their input - very helpful info, guys.....

I quick check on tractrordata.com says the L2050 had a live PTO. Both seam to be about the same weight, neither tractors are too heavy so they shouldn't tear up the lawn too much. The L2050 doesn't have a mid PTO option so you would have to use a rear mount mower, something that would add to the price. With the B7800 you wouldn't need to remove the mower to use the TPH.

I really like my B7800. I think the hydro trans is a must have for loader work.
I know that there are lots of good tractors and the B7800 is one of them!

Sorry
Yes indeed a L2050, introduced in 1989, 20pto hp. Available in both 2 and 4 wheel drive. No other info provided on Kubotas web site.
And I thought I knew Kubota's XX50 series.
